“ Get your swords!” was David’s reply as he strapped on his own. Then 400 men started off with David, and 200 remained behind to guard their equipment.

And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the baggage.

Then David instructed his men,“ Each of you strap on your sword!” So each one strapped on his sword, and David also strapped on his sword. About four hundred men followed David up, while two hundred stayed behind with the equipment.

Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went wherever they could go. Saul was told that David was escaped from Keilah; and he gave up going there.

It isn’t good to have zeal without knowledge, nor being hasty with one’s feet and missing the way.

The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.

The men sampled their provisions, and didn’t ask counsel from Yahweh’s mouth.

Afterward, David’s heart struck him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.He said to his men,“ Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Yahweh’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is Yahweh’s anointed.”

One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.

Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written,“ Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”Therefore“ If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.”Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.

Don’t be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?

So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows, of those who went with David, answered and said,“ Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away, and depart.”Then David said,“ Do not do so, my brothers, with that which Yahweh has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.Who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays with the baggage. They shall share alike.”

So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn’t go over the brook Besor.
