Then David said to his men,“ Each of you strap on his sword.” So each man strapped on his sword. And David also strapped on his sword, and about four hundred men went up behind David, while two hundred stayed with the baggage.

“ Get your swords!” was David’s reply as he strapped on his own. Then 400 men started off with David, and 200 remained behind to guard their equipment.

He said to his men,“ All of you, put on your swords!” So each man put on his sword, and David also put on his sword. About four hundred men followed David while two hundred stayed with the supplies.

Then David said to his men,“ Every man gird on his sword.” So every man girded on his sword, and David also girded on his sword. And about four hundred men went with David, and two hundred stayed with the supplies.

Then David and his men, about six hundred, rose up and departed from Keilah, and they went wherever they could go. When it was reported to Saul that David had escaped from Keilah, he gave up the pursuit.

Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, And one who hurries his footsteps errs.

A person’s discretion makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook an offense.

So the men of Israel took some of their provisions, and did not ask for the counsel of the Lord.

But it came about afterward that David’s conscience bothered him because he had cut off the edge of Saul’s robe.So he said to his men,“ Far be it from me because of the Lord that I would do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to reach out with my hand against him, since he is the Lord’s anointed.”

One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And one who rules his spirit, than one who captures a city.

Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written:“ Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.“ But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

One who is slow to anger has great understanding; But one who is quick tempered exalts foolishness.

Do not go out hastily to argue your case; Otherwise, what will you do in the end, When your neighbor humiliates you?

You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God.

When David came to the two hundred men who were too exhausted to follow David and had been left behind at the brook Besor, and they went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him, then David approached the people and greeted them.Then all the wicked and worthless men among those who went with David said,“ Since they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoils that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, so that they may lead them away and leave.”But David said,“ You must not do so, my brothers, with what the Lord has given us, for He has protected us and handed over to us the band of raiders that came against us.And who will listen to you in this matter? For as is the share of the one who goes down into the battle, so shall be the share of the one who stays by the baggage; they shall share alike.”

So David left, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and they came to the brook Besor, where some who were left behind stayed.But David pursued, he and four hundred men, for two hundred who were too exhausted to cross the brook Besor stayed behind.
