“ Get your swords!” was David’s reply as he strapped on his own. Then 400 men started off with David, and 200 remained behind to guard their equipment.

Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed from Keilah, and they went wherever they could go. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he gave up the expedition.

Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.

Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.

So the men took some of their provisions, but did not ask counsel from the Lord.

And afterward David’s heart struck him, because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.He said to his men,“ The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord’s anointed.”

Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”To the contrary,“ if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.

do not hastily bring into court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame?

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Then David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow David, and who had been left at the brook Besor. And they went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him. And when David came near to the people he greeted them.Then all the wicked and worthless fellows among the men who had gone with David said,“ Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except that each man may lead away his wife and children, and depart.”But David said,“ You shall not do so, my brothers, with what the Lord has given us. He has preserved us and given into our hand the band that came against us.Who would listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down into the battle, so shall his share be who stays by the baggage. They shall share alike.”

So David set out, and the six hundred men who were with him, and they came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.But David pursued, he and four hundred men. Two hundred stayed behind, who were too exhausted to cross the brook Besor.
