Now swear to me by the Lord that you will not kill off my descendants or wipe out my name from my father’s family.”

Now make a promise in the name of the Lord. Promise me that you won’t kill the children of my family. Also promise me that you won’t wipe out my name from my family line.”

Swear to me therefore by the Lord that you will not cut off my offspring after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s house.”

Now swear to me by the Lord that when that happens you will not kill my family and destroy my line of descendants!”

Therefore swear to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants or wipe out my name from my father’s family.”

So now swear to me by the Lord that you will not cut off my descendants after me, and that you will not eliminate my name from my father’s household.”

請你把掃羅的七個子孫交給我們。耶和華選立了掃羅，我們就在耶和華面前把他們吊死在掃羅的家鄉基比亞城。」王說：「我必把他們交給你們。」大衛王因為與掃羅的兒子約拿單在耶和華面前起過誓，就沒有把掃羅的孫子、約拿單的兒子米非波設交出來。他把埃亞的女兒利斯巴為掃羅所生的兩個兒子亞摩尼、米非波設和掃羅女兒米拉為米何拉人巴西萊的兒子亞得列所生的五個兒子交給基遍人。

在我有生之年，請你照耶和華的慈愛恩待我，免我一死。在我死後，即使耶和華把你所有的仇敵都毀滅了，請你仍舊恩待我的後人。」於是，約拿單與大衛家立下盟約，說：「倘若大衛不守盟約，願耶和華藉著仇敵懲罰他。」約拿單因為像愛自己一樣愛大衛，便叫他再次起誓。

拉班說：「今日，這石堆是你我之間的憑證。」因此，那地方名叫迦累得，

願亞伯拉罕和拿鶴的上帝，就是他們父親的上帝，在你我之間判斷是非。」雅各便在他父親以撒敬畏的上帝面前起誓，

人總是指著比自己更大的起誓，並用誓言作保證，了結各樣的爭論。
