义人的愿望，尽是美好，恶人的希望，必招致忿怒。

于是拿伯城里的人，就是那些与拿伯同住一城的长老和贵胄，都照着耶洗别送给他们的信上所写的去行。他们宣告禁食，使拿伯坐在民间的首席上。然后两个匪徒来坐在拿伯的对面。这两个流氓当众作见证控告拿伯，说：“拿伯曾经咒诅神和君王。”众人就把拿伯拉出城外，用石头打他，把他打死了。于是他们派人去见耶洗别，说：“拿伯已经被人用石头打死了。”

很多人求掌权者的情面，但各人的判决是出于耶和华。

“如果有住在以色列中任何一座城里的利未人，离开了那里，一心一意到耶和华选择的地方去，

恶人看见就恼怒，他必咬牙切齿，身心耗损；恶人的心愿必幻灭。

因为傲慢的人（“傲慢的人”有古抄本作“外族人”）起来攻击我，强横的人寻索我的性命；他们不把神放在眼里。（细拉）

后来，押尼珥对大卫说：“让我去把以色列众人召集到我主我王这里来，好叫他们与你立约，这样你就可以照着自己的心愿统治所有的人。”于是大卫打发押尼珥回去，他就平平安安地走了。

于是内务长、市长、长老和亚哈众子的导师送信给耶户说：“我们是你的仆人，你吩咐我们的，我们都必照办；我们也不会立什么人作王；你看怎样好，我们就怎样作。”于是耶户写第二封信给他们说：“如果你们是归从我，听我的话的，就要把你们主人的儿子们的头颅取下，明天大约这个时候，带来耶斯列给我。”那时，王的七十个儿子是住在抚养他们的城中的大臣那里。这信到达他们那里的时候，他们就拿住王的众子，把这七十人杀了，然后把他们的头放在篮子里，送到耶斯列耶户那里。
