但我回答說：「像我這樣的人豈能逃跑？豈能進入殿裡保命？我決不進去。」

耶和華對大衛的先見迦得說：

如果你們在一個地方遭迫害，就避到另一個地方。我實在告訴你們，沒等你們走遍以色列的城鎮，人子就來了。

便雅憫支派和猶大支派中也有人到堡壘投奔大衛，

「他們認為是陰謀的，你們不要認為是陰謀。他們所怕的，你們不要怕，也不要畏懼。你們當尊萬軍之耶和華為聖，當敬畏祂，畏懼祂。祂必作人的聖所，也要作以色列和猶大的絆腳石和使人跌倒的磐石，作耶路撒冷居民的陷阱和網羅。

大衛王一生的事蹟都記在撒母耳先見、拿單先知和迦得先見的史記上。

一天，大衛得知非利士人正在攻打基伊拉，搶掠麥場，便求問耶和華：「我可以去攻打非利士人嗎？」耶和華答道：「你可以去攻打非利士人，營救基伊拉。」大衛的部下卻對他說：「我們在猶大這裡尚且膽戰心驚，何況去基伊拉攻打非利士軍隊呢！」大衛再求問耶和華，耶和華答道：「到基伊拉去吧，我一定把非利士人交在你手裡。」於是，大衛和部下到基伊拉去攻打非利士人，大敗敵人，奪取了他們的牲畜，救出基伊拉人。亞希米勒的兒子祭司亞比亞他到基伊拉投奔大衛時，把以弗得也帶了去。

第二天早上，耶和華對大衛的先見——迦得先知說：
