Then the king said to the messengers who were stationed beside him,“ Turn and kill the priests of the LORD, for they too have sided with David! They knew he was fleeing, but they did not inform me.” But the king’s servants refused to harm the priests of the LORD.

王諭侍衛曰、耶和華之祭司、輔助大闢、知其逃遁、而不以告、故當殺之。王僕不敢遵命。

王命立於側之侍衛曰、爾往殺主之諸祭司、以其輔助大衛、知彼逃遁而不以告我、王之臣僕不敢殺主之祭司、

Then the king ordered the guards at his side:“ Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because they too have sided with David. They knew he was fleeing, yet they did not tell me.” But the king’s officials were unwilling to raise a hand to strike the priests of the Lord.

Then the king gave an order to the guards at his side. He said,“ Go and kill the priests of the Lord. They are on David’s side too. They knew he was running away from me. And they didn’t even tell me.” But the king’s officials wouldn’t raise a hand to strike down the priests of the Lord.

And the king said to the guard who stood about him,“ Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king would not put out their hand to strike the priests of the Lord.

And he ordered his bodyguards,“ Kill these priests of the Lord, for they are allies and conspirators with David! They knew he was running away from me, but they didn’t tell me!” But Saul’s men refused to kill the Lord’s priests.

Then the king ordered the guards standing by him,“ Turn and kill the priests of the LORD because they sided with David. For they knew he was fleeing, but they didn’t tell me.” But the king’s servants would not lift a hand to execute the priests of the LORD.

And the king said to the guards who were attending him,“ Turn around and put the priests of the Lord to death, because their hand also is with David and because they knew that he was fleeing and did not inform me.” But the servants of the king were unwilling to reach out with their hands to attack the priests of the Lord.

Then the king said to the guards who stood about him,“ Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled and did not tell it to me.” But the servants of the king would not lift their hands to strike the priests of the Lord.

And the king said unto the guard that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of Jehovah; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.

Then the king ordered the guards standing by him,“ Turn and kill the priests of the Lord because they sided with David. For they knew he was fleeing, but they didn’t tell me.” But the king’s servants would not lift a hand to execute the priests of the Lord.

And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also[ is] with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.

The king said to the guard who stood about him,“ Turn, and kill the priests of Yahweh; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and didn’t disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king wouldn’t put out their hand to fall on the priests of Yahweh.

But the midwives feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them; they let the boys live.

Now Adonijah, son of David and Haggith, was promoting himself, boasting,“ I will be king!” He managed to acquire chariots and horsemen, as well as fifty men to serve as his royal guard.

The king sent a third captain and his fifty soldiers. This third captain went up and fell on his knees before Elijah. He begged for mercy,“ Prophet, please have respect for my life and for the lives of these fifty servants of yours.Indeed, fire came down from the sky and consumed the two captains who came before me, along with their men. So now, please have respect for my life.”

But the army said to Saul,“ Should Jonathan, who won this great victory in Israel, die? May it never be! As surely as the LORD lives, not a single hair of his head will fall to the ground! For it is with the help of God that he has acted today.” So the army rescued Jonathan from death.

He said,“ Here are the policies of the king who will rule over you: He will conscript your sons and put them in his chariot forces and in his cavalry; they will run in front of his chariot.

Then Saul threw his spear at Jonathan in order to strike him down. So Jonathan was convinced that his father had decided to kill David.

Some time later Absalom managed to acquire a chariot and horses, as well as fifty men to serve as his royal guard.

But Peter and John replied,“ Whether it is right before God to obey you rather than God, you decide,

Now be aware of this, and see what you can do. For disaster has been planned for our lord and his entire household. He is such a wicked person that no one tells him anything!”

When he finished offering the burnt sacrifice, Jehu ordered the royal guard and officers,“ Come in and strike them down! Don’t let any escape!” So the royal guard and officers struck them down with the sword and left their bodies lying there. Then they entered the inner sanctuary of the temple of Baal.

Saul said to him,“ Why have you conspired against me, you and this son of Jesse? You gave him bread and a sword and inquired of God on his behalf, so that he opposes me and waits in ambush, as is the case today!”
