一次，三十位勇士中有三位到亞杜蘭洞附近的磐石那裡見大衛，當時非利士的軍隊駐紮在利乏音谷。

我向耶和華呼求，我高聲向祂求助，我在祂面前傾訴我的苦情，向祂述說我的患難。耶和華啊，我心力交瘁的時候，只有你知道我當走的路。敵人已在我行的路上鋪下網羅。看看我左右，無人關心我；我走投無路，無人眷顧我。耶和華啊，我向你呼求，你是我的避難所，在世上你是我的福分。求你垂聽我的呼求，因為我身陷絕境。求你救我脫離迫害我的人，因為他們太強大了。求你救我脫離牢籠，好讓我讚美你。因為你恩待我，義人必聚集在我周圍。

我要常常稱頌耶和華，時刻讚美祂。

在曠野、群山、山洞和地穴中漂流不定。他們是世界不配有的！

那日，大衛為了躲避掃羅，逃往迦特王亞吉那裡。亞吉的臣僕對亞吉說：「這個大衛不是以色列的王嗎？民眾跳舞歌唱『掃羅殺死千千，大衛殺死萬萬』，歌頌的不是他嗎？」大衛聽到這些話，擔心迦特王亞吉會加害於他，就在他們面前裝作瘋子，在城門上胡亂塗畫，任由唾沫沿著鬍子流下來。亞吉對臣僕說：「你們看，這是個瘋子，為什麼把他帶到我這裡來？我這裡缺少瘋子嗎？你們怎麼可以把這個傢伙帶到我家裡，在我面前瘋瘋癲癲呢？」

瑪利沙的居民啊，我要使征服者到你們那裡。以色列的領袖要躲到亞杜蘭。

看啊，耶和華離開祂的居所，從天降臨，腳踏大地的高處。
