As for you, show kindness to your servant, for you have brought him into a covenant with you before the Lord. If I am guilty, then kill me yourself! Why hand me over to your father?”

Show me this loyalty as my sworn friend— for we made a solemn pact before the Lord— or kill me yourself if I have sinned against your father. But please don’t betray me to him!”

約拿單與大衛結為盟友，因為他愛大衛如同愛自己的性命。

押沙龍對約押說：「看哪，我曾派人去你那裡說：『請你過來，我想委託你去見王說：「我何必從基述回來呢？我不如留在那裡。」』現在我要見王的面，如果我身上有罪孽，就讓他把我處死吧！」

於是他們二人在耶和華面前立約，然後大衛仍住在何列什，而約拿單回自己的家去了。

於是約拿單與大衛家立約：「願耶和華從大衛仇敵的手中追討背約之罪！」

娜娥米對她的兩個兒媳說：「你們走吧，各自回娘家去吧！願耶和華以慈愛對待你們，像你們先前對待已故的人和一直對待我那樣。

不要讓慈愛和信實離開你，要把它們繫在你的頸項上，刻在你的心版上；

現在，如果你們願意以恩慈和真誠對待我的主人，就請告訴我；如果不願意，也請告訴我；好使我可以或向左或向右行。」

以色列的死期臨近了，就叫來他兒子約瑟，對他說：「如果我在你眼前蒙恩，請你把手放在我大腿底下，以恩慈和真誠對待我，請你不要把我葬在埃及。

既然如此，如果我行了什麼不義的事，犯了什麼該死的罪，就是死我也不拒絕；但如果這些人對我的控告不是真的，那麼誰也不能把我交給他們。我向凱撒上訴！」

如果我惡待那與我和好的人，或是無故掠奪我的敵人，就任憑仇敵追趕我，並且追上！任憑他把我的性命踩踏於地，使我的榮耀歸入塵土！細拉
