Jonathan responded to his father Saul,“ Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”

約拿單問：「為什麼要殺他？他做了什麼？」

約拿單回答他父親掃羅說：“為甚麼要把他處死呢？他作了甚麼事呢？”

約拿單回答他父親掃羅說：『他為甚麼必須死？他作了甚麼？』

約拿單回應他父親掃羅說：「他為什麼該死？他做了什麼呢？」

約拿單謂父曰、何故致之於死、彼何所為、

約拿單曰、何故殺之、彼何所為。

約拿單對父掃羅曰、何故殺之、彼何所為、

“ Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” Jonathan asked his father.

“ Why do you want to put him to death?” Jonathan asked his father.“ What has he done?”

Then Jonathan answered Saul his father,“ Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”

“ But why should he be put to death?” Jonathan asked his father.“ What has he done?”

Jonathan answered his father back,“ Why is he to be killed? What has he done?”

But Jonathan replied to his father Saul and said to him,“ Why must he be put to death? What has he done?”

And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him,“ Why should he be killed? What has he done?”

And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore should he be put to death? what hath he done?

Jonathan answered his father back:“ Why is he to be killed? What has he done?”

And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done?

Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him,“ Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”

He asked,“ Why? What wrong has he done?” But they shouted more insistently,“ Crucify him!”

He risked his life when he struck down the Philistine and the LORD gave all Israel a great victory. When you saw it, you were happy. So why would you sin against innocent blood by putting David to death for no reason?”

A third time he said to them,“ Why? What wrong has he done? I have found him guilty of no crime deserving death. I will therefore flog him and release him.”

The human mind is more deceitful than anything else. It is incurably bad. Who can understand it?

Do not make friends with an angry person, and do not associate with a wrathful person,

“ Our law doesn’t condemn a man unless it first hears from him and learns what he is doing, does it?”

and Saul threw the spear, thinking,“ I’ll nail David to the wall!” But David escaped from him on two different occasions.

Jacob became angry and argued with Laban.“ What did I do wrong?” he demanded of Laban.“ What sin of mine prompted you to chase after me in hot pursuit?

This is the unfortunate fact about everything that happens on earth: the same fate awaits everyone. In addition to this, the hearts of all people are full of evil, and there is folly in their hearts during their lives– then they die.

Deliver those being taken away to death, and hold back those slipping to the slaughter.If you say,“ But we did not know about this,” does not the one who evaluates hearts consider? Does not the one who guards your life know? Will he not repay each person according to his deeds?

Do not let yourself be quickly provoked, for anger resides in the lap of fools.

If he should then say,‘ That’s fine,’ then your servant is safe. But if he becomes very angry, be assured that he has decided to harm me.

Saul tried to nail David to the wall with the spear, but he escaped from Saul’s presence and the spear drove into the wall. David escaped quickly that night.Saul sent messengers to David’s house to guard it and to kill him in the morning. Then David’s wife Michal told him,“ If you do not save yourself tonight, tomorrow you will be dead!”
