Then David took an oath before Jonathan and said,“ Your father knows perfectly well about our friendship, so he has said to himself,‘ I won’t tell Jonathan— why should I hurt him?’ But I swear to you that I am only a step away from death! I swear it by the Lord and by your own soul!”

大卫又起誓说：“你父亲准知我在你眼前蒙恩。他心里说，不如不叫约拿单知道，恐怕他愁烦。我指着永生的耶和华，又敢在你面前起誓，我离死不过一步。”

大卫又起誓说：“你父亲确实知道我在你眼前蒙恩。所以他说，‘这事不要让约拿单知道，免得他愁烦。’我指着永生的耶和华起誓，又指着你的性命起誓，我离死只差一步而已。”

大卫又起誓说：“你父亲确实知道我在你眼前蒙恩。所以他说，‘这事不要让约拿单知道，免得他愁烦。’我指着永生的耶和华起誓，又指着你的性命起誓，我离死只差一步而已。”

大卫发誓说：“你父亲深知你恩待我，他为了不使你伤心，才瞒着你。但我凭永活的耶和华和你的性命起誓，我离死亡仅一步之遥！”

大卫再起誓说：“你父亲一定知道我在你眼中蒙恩，就心里想：‘不要让约拿单知道这事，免得他伤心。’可是，我指着永活的耶和华，又指着你的性命起誓，我离死只差一步。”

大卫又起誓说：“你父亲深知我在你眼前蒙恩，就想：‘不要让约拿单知道这事，免得他忧伤。’然而我指着耶和华的永生和你的生命起誓：我离死只有一步！”

大衛又起誓說：「你父親準知我在你眼前蒙恩。他心裏說，不如不叫約拿單知道，恐怕他愁煩。我指着永生的耶和華，又敢在你面前起誓，我離死不過一步。」

大衛又起誓說：「你父親確實知道我在你眼前蒙恩。所以他說，『這事不要讓約拿單知道，免得他愁煩。』我指着永生的耶和華起誓，又指着你的性命起誓，我離死只差一步而已。」

大衛又起誓說：「你父親確實知道我在你眼前蒙恩。所以他說，『這事不要讓約拿單知道，免得他愁煩。』我指着永生的耶和華起誓，又指着你的性命起誓，我離死只差一步而已。」

大衛發誓說：「你父親深知你恩待我，他為了不使你傷心，才瞞著你。但我憑永活的耶和華和你的性命起誓，我離死亡僅一步之遙！」

大衛再起誓說：“你父親一定知道我在你眼中蒙恩，就心裡想：‘不要讓約拿單知道這事，免得他傷心。’可是，我指著永活的耶和華，又指著你的性命起誓，我離死只差一步。”

大衛回答說：『你父親準知道你跟我好；故此他心裏說：「不如不叫約拿單知道這事，恐怕他擔憂。」雖然如此，我指着永活的永恆主、也指着你的性命來起誓：我與死之間、只有一步之隔罷了。』

大衛又起誓說：「你父親深知我在你眼前蒙恩，就想：『不要讓約拿單知道這事，免得他憂傷。』然而我指著耶和華的永生和你的生命起誓：我離死只有一步！」

大衛誓曰、爾父明知我蒙爾恩、故曰、勿令約拿單知之、恐其憂戚、然我指維生之耶和華、及爾生命而誓、我離死地、僅一步耳、

大闢曰、爾父明知、我沾恩於爾、故不告爾、恐憂爾心、然我指耶和華而誓、亦指爾生命以誓、我離死地、止數武矣。

大衛又誓曰、爾父知我蒙恩於爾前、我蒙恩於爾前或作爾喜悅我必自忖曰、莫若不使約拿單知之、恐其有憂、然我指永生天主而誓、亦指爾生命而誓、我與死亡、僅離一步、

But David took an oath and said,“ Your father knows very well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said to himself,‘ Jonathan must not know this or he will be grieved.’ Yet as surely as the Lord lives and as you live, there is only a step between me and death.”

But David strongly disagreed. He said,“ Your father knows very well that you are pleased with me. He has said to himself,‘ I don’t want Jonathan to know I’m planning to kill David. If he finds out, he’ll be very sad.’ But I’m very close to being killed. And that’s just as sure as the Lord and you are alive.”

But David vowed again, saying,“ Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he thinks,‘ Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved.’ But truly, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

But David said,“ Your father certainly knows that I have found favor with you. He has said,‘ Jonathan must not know of this, or else he will be grieved.’” David also swore,“ As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.”

Yet David vowed again, saying,“ Your father is well aware that I have found favor in your sight, and he has said,‘ Jonathan is not to know this, otherwise he will be worried.’ But indeed as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, there is just a step between me and death.”

Then David took an oath again, and said,“ Your father certainly knows that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said,‘ Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved.’ But truly, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father knoweth well that I have found favor in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.

But David said,“ Your father certainly knows that you have come to look favorably on me. He has said,‘ Jonathan must not know of this, or else he will be grieved.’” David also swore,“ As surely as the Lord lives and as you yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.”

And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly[ as] the LORD liveth, and[ as] thy soul liveth,[ there is] but a step between me and death.

Taking an oath, David again said,“ Your father is very much aware of the fact that I have found favor with you, and he has thought,‘ Don’t let Jonathan know about this, or he will be upset.’ But as surely as the LORD lives and you live, there is about one step between me and death!”

David swore moreover, and said,“ Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes; and he says,‘ Don’t let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved;’ but truly as Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

But David kept thinking to himself,“ Someday Saul is going to get me. The best thing I can do is escape to the Philistines. Then Saul will stop hunting for me in Israelite territory, and I will finally be safe.”

Then Elijah said to Elisha,“ Stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to the Jordan River.” But again Elisha replied,“ As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you.” So they went on together.

“ Now, my lord, as surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, since the Lord has kept you from murdering and taking vengeance into your own hands, let all your enemies and those who try to harm you be as cursed as Nabal is.

You must fear the Lord your God and serve him. When you take an oath, you must use only his name.

“ Sir, do you remember me?” Hannah asked.“ I am the very woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord.

And Elijah said to Elisha,“ Stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to Bethel.” But Elisha replied,“ As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you!” So they went down together to Bethel.

Then Elijah said to Elisha,“ Stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to Jericho.” But Elisha replied again,“ As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you.” So they went on together to Jericho.

Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding.

In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.

Then when you swear by my name, saying,‘ As surely as the Lord lives,’ you could do so with truth, justice, and righteousness. Then you would be a blessing to the nations of the world, and all people would come and praise my name.”

But Ittai said to the king,“ I vow by the Lord and by your own life that I will go wherever my lord the king goes, no matter what happens— whether it means life or death.”

And why should we ourselves risk our lives hour by hour?For I swear, dear brothers and sisters, that I face death daily. This is as certain as my pride in what Christ Jesus our Lord has done in you.

Your life will constantly hang in the balance. You will live night and day in fear, unsure if you will survive.

As Saul watched David go out to fight the Philistine, he asked Abner, the commander of his army,“ Abner, whose son is this young man?”“ I really don’t know,” Abner declared.

So King Zedekiah secretly promised him,“ As surely as the Lord our Creator lives, I will not kill you or hand you over to the men who want you dead.”

Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow.
