and said,“ I called out to the LORD from my distress, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried out for help, and you heard my prayer.You threw me into the deep waters, into the middle of the sea; the ocean current engulfed me; all the mighty waves you sent swept over me.I thought I had been banished from your sight, that I would never again see your holy temple!Water engulfed me up to my neck; the deep ocean surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.I went down to the very bottoms of the mountains; the gates of the netherworld barred me in forever; but you brought me up from the Pit, O LORD, my God.

For he wounds, but he also bandages; he strikes, but his hands also heal.

and the one who lives! I was dead, but look, now I am alive– forever and ever– and I hold the keys of death and of Hades!

“ Come on! Let’s return to the LORD! He himself has torn us to pieces, but he will heal us! He has injured us, but he will bandage our wounds!He will restore us in a very short time; he will heal us in a little while, so that we may live in his presence.

Taking an oath, David again said,“ Your father is very much aware of the fact that I have found favor with you, and he has thought,‘ Don’t let Jonathan know about this, or he will be upset.’ But as surely as the LORD lives and you live, there is about one step between me and death!”

Our God is a God who delivers; the LORD, the sovereign Lord, can rescue from death.

Jesus said to her,“ I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even if he dies,

Indeed we felt as if the sentence of death had been passed against us, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.He delivered us from so great a risk of death, and he will deliver us. We have set our hope on him that he will deliver us yet again,

For just as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

I tell you the solemn truth, a time is coming– and is now here– when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.For just as the Father has life in himself, thus he has granted the Son to have life in himself,and he has granted the Son authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.“ Do not be amazed at this, because a time is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voiceand will come out– the ones who have done what is good to the resurrection resulting in life, and the ones who have done what is evil to the resurrection resulting in condemnation.

The ropes of death tightened around me, the snares of Sheol confronted me. I was confronted with trouble and sorrow.
