我必不从我的祭坛那里灭绝你家的人，免得你的眼睛昏花，心灵忧伤，但所有你家中增添的人都必像世人一样死去（按照《七十士译本》和《死海古卷》，“像世人一样死去”作“死在人的刀下”）。

然爾家之人、我不盡絕於我祭臺、或作爾家中惟有一人我不絕之於我祭臺俾其俾其原文作俾爾目倦心傷、爾家之人、多半死於壯年、或作爾家中所育必壯年夭死

Every one of you that I do not cut off from serving at my altar I will spare only to destroy your sight and sap your strength, and all your descendants will die in the prime of life.

I will prevent the members of your family from serving me at my altar. I will destroy the eyesight of all of you I allow to live. I will also cause you to lose your strength. And everyone in your family line will die while they are still young.

The only one of you whom I shall not cut off from my altar shall be spared to weep his eyes out to grieve his heart, and all the descendants of your house shall die by the sword of men.

The few not cut off from serving at my altar will survive, but only so their eyes can go blind and their hearts break, and their children will die a violent death.

Any man from your family I do not cut off from my altar will bring grief and sadness to you. All your descendants will die violently.

Yet I will not cut off every man of yours from My altar, so that your eyes will fail from weeping and your soul grieve, and all the increase of your house will die in the prime of life.

But any of your men whom I do not cut off from My altar shall consume your eyes and grieve your heart. And all the descendants of your house shall die in the flower of their age.

And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thy heart; and all the increase of thy house shall die in the flower of their age.

王对亚比亚他祭司说：“你回亚拿突自己的田地去吧！你本来是该死的，但我今天不杀死你，因为你在我父亲大卫面前抬过主耶和华的约柜，又与我父亲同受一切苦难。”所罗门就罢免了亚比亚他，不准他作耶和华的祭司，这样就应验了耶和华在示罗所说有关以利家的话。

他宰杀了许多公牛、肥畜和羊，邀请了王所有的儿子、亚比亚他祭司和军队的元帅约押，却没有邀请王的仆人所罗门。

亚比亚他把扫罗杀害耶和华祭司的事告诉了大卫，大卫就对亚比亚他说：“那一天我见以东人多益在那里，就知道他必定会告诉扫罗。你父全家每个人的死，我都有责任。你可以住在我这里。不要惧怕，因为那寻索你命的，正在寻索我的命，你与我在一起就可保安全。”

亚多尼雅与洗鲁雅的儿子约押和亚比亚他祭司商议以后，二人都答应支持他。

希律见自己被星象家愚弄了，就大怒，于是照着他从星象家所问得的日子，下令把伯利恒和附近地方，两岁及以下的小孩全都杀死。这就应验了耶利米先知所说的：“在拉玛听见有声音，是痛哭、极大哀号的声音；拉结为她的儿女哀哭，不肯受安慰，因为他们都不在了。”
