王就吩咐左右的侍衛說：「你們去殺耶和華的祭司；因為他們幫助大衛，又知道大衛逃跑，竟沒有告訴我。」掃羅的臣子卻不肯伸手殺耶和華的祭司。王吩咐多益說：「你去殺祭司吧！」以東人多益就去殺祭司，那日殺了穿細麻布以弗得的八十五人；又用刀將祭司城挪伯中的男女、孩童、吃奶的，和牛、羊、驢盡都殺滅。亞希突的兒子亞希米勒有一個兒子，名叫亞比亞他，逃到大衛那裏。

非利士人向以色列人擺陣。兩軍交戰的時候，以色列人敗在非利士人面前；非利士人在戰場上殺了他們的軍兵約有四千人。

神的約櫃被擄去，以利的兩個兒子何弗尼、非尼哈也都被殺了。當日，有一個便雅憫人從陣上逃跑，衣服撕裂，頭蒙灰塵，來到示羅。到了的時候，以利正在道旁坐在自己的位上觀望，為神的約櫃心裏擔憂。那人進城報信，合城的人就都呼喊起來。以利聽見呼喊的聲音就問說：「這喧嚷是甚麼緣故呢？」那人急忙來報信給以利。那時以利九十八歲了，眼目發直，不能看見。那人對以利說：「我是從陣上來的，今日我從陣上逃回。」以利說：「我兒，事情怎樣？」報信的回答說：「以色列人在非利士人面前逃跑，民中被殺的甚多！你的兩個兒子何弗尼、非尼哈也都死了，並且神的約櫃被擄去。」他一提神的約櫃，以利就從他的位上往後跌倒，在門旁折斷頸項而死；因為他年紀老邁，身體沉重。以利作以色列的士師四十年。以利的兒婦、非尼哈的妻懷孕將到產期，她聽見神的約櫃被擄去，公公和丈夫都死了，就猛然疼痛，曲身生產；將要死的時候，旁邊站着的婦人們對她說：「不要怕！你生了男孩子了。」她卻不回答，也不放在心上。

在那裏有亞希突的兒子亞希亞，穿着以弗得。（亞希突是以迦博的哥哥，非尼哈的兒子，以利的孫子。以利從前在示羅作耶和華的祭司。）約拿單去了，百姓卻不知道。

「人子啊，我已打折埃及王法老的膀臂；沒有敷藥，也沒有用布纏好，使他有力持刀。所以主耶和華如此說：看哪，我與埃及王法老為敵，必將他有力的膀臂和已打折的膀臂全行打斷，使刀從他手中墜落。我必將埃及人分散在列國，四散在列邦。我必使巴比倫王的膀臂有力，將我的刀交在他手中；卻要打斷法老的膀臂，他就在巴比倫王面前唉哼，如同受死傷的人一樣。

因為惡人的膀臂必被折斷；但耶和華是扶持義人。

王就立耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅作元帥，代替約押，又使祭司撒督代替亞比亞他。

你打發寡婦空手回去，折斷孤兒的膀臂。

「當以色列人走迷的時候，有利未人遠離我，就是走迷離開我、隨從他們的偶像，他們必擔當自己的罪孽。

王對祭司亞比亞他說：「你回亞拿突歸自己的田地去吧！你本是該死的，但因你在我父親大衛面前擡過主耶和華的約櫃，又與我父親同受一切苦難，所以我今日不將你殺死。」所羅門就革除亞比亞他，不許他作耶和華的祭司。這樣，便應驗耶和華在示羅論以利家所說的話。
