The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your priestly house, so that no one in it will reach old age,

The time is coming when I will cut your life short. I will also cut short the lives of those in your family line of priests. No one in your family line will grow old.

Behold, the days are coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your house.

The time is coming when I will put an end to your family, so it will no longer serve as my priests. All the members of your family will die before their time. None will reach old age.

Look, the days are coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your forefather’s family, so that none in your family will reach old age.

And he said, How went the matter, my son?And he that brought the tidings answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.And his daughter- in- law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father- in- law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and brought forth; for her pains came upon her.And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast brought forth a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.

and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of Jehovah in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.
