Saul listened to Jonathan and took this oath:“ As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be put to death.”

Saul paid attention to Jonathan. Saul made a promise. He said,“ You can be sure that the Lord lives. And you can be just as sure that David will not be put to death.”

And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore,“ As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.”

So Saul listened to Jonathan and vowed,“ As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be killed.”

Saul listened to Jonathan’s advice and swore an oath:“ As surely as the LORD lives, David will not be killed.”

So Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swore,“ As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed.”

He that hateth dissembleth with his lips; But he layeth up deceit within him:When he speaketh fair, believe him not; For there are seven abominations in his heart:

And though they say, As Jehovah liveth; surely they swear falsely.

For, as Jehovah liveth, who saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.

And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the spear; but he slipped away out of Saul’s presence, and he smote the spear into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.And Saul sent messengers unto David’s house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to- night, to- morrow thou wilt be slain.

And Saul sware to her by Jehovah, saying, As Jehovah liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.

In whose eyes a reprobate is despised, But who honoreth them that fear Jehovah; He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not;
