「現在你可以與我主亞述王下一個賭注：你那邊如果能給出相應的騎士，我就給你兩千匹馬；如果不能，你怎能擊退我主的臣僕中至小的一個軍官呢？你竟敢依靠埃及的戰車和馬兵！現在，我上來攻打這地，要把它毀滅，難道不是出於耶和華嗎？是耶和華對我說『你要上去攻打這地，把它毀滅！』」

不要讓希西加唆哄你們，說：耶和華必解救我們。列國的神明中，有哪一個曾解救自己的國土脫離亞述王的手呢？

其實外表上做猶太人的，並不是猶太人；外表上、肉身上的割禮，也不是割禮。然而，在內心做猶太人的才是猶太人；同樣，內心的割禮才是割禮——不是靠著律法條文而是靠著聖靈；這樣的人得到的稱讚不是從人來的，而是從神來的。

到那日，我必使耶路撒冷成為萬民的一塊沉重石頭，凡背負它的都必受重傷；地上萬國都將聚集起來攻擊它。」

萬軍之耶和華這樣說，為了他的榮耀，他派遣我敵對那些擄奪你們的國家，因為那碰你們的，就是碰他眼中的瞳人。

大衛問站在旁邊的人說：「如果有人擊殺這非利士人，除掉以色列的羞辱，他會被怎樣對待呢？這未受割禮的非利士人是誰，竟敢辱罵永生神的軍隊！」

那麼以下就是我針對西納基立說的話：錫安處女藐視你、嘲笑你，耶路撒冷女子在你後面搖頭。你辱罵誰、褻瀆誰呢？你揚起聲音、高舉眼目針對的是誰呢？是針對以色列的聖者！

也不要讓希西加說服你們依靠耶和華，因為他會說：耶和華必定解救我們，這城必不落入亞述王手中。』

現在我告訴你們：不要管這些人，由他們去吧！因為這計劃或這行為，如果是出於人，就會被拆毀；但如果是出於神，你們就不能拆毀他們，恐怕你們反而被看做是與神作對了。」於是議會的人被迦瑪列說服了，

民眾一直喊叫：「這是神的聲音，不是人的聲音。」主的一位天使立刻擊打希律，因為他沒有把榮耀歸給神。他被蟲咬蝕，就斷了氣。

他仆倒在地上，聽見有聲音對他說：「掃羅，掃羅！你為什麼逼迫我？」他問：「主啊，你到底是誰？」主說：「我就是你所逼迫的耶穌。

斧頭怎能向用斧伐木的人自誇呢？鋸子怎能向拉鋸的人自大呢？這簡直是說，棍能揮動那舉棍的，杖能舉起那本不是木頭的人！

大約在此時，希律王下手虐待教會中的一些人，用刀殺了約翰的哥哥雅各。

你或坐或出或入，我都知道；我也知道你對我發怒。因為你對我發怒，你的驕奢安逸上達我的耳中，所以我要把鉤子放進你的鼻孔，把嚼環放入你的嘴裡，我必使你從原路返回。
