“现在你可以与我主亚述王下一个赌注：你那边如果能给出相应的骑士，我就给你两千匹马；如果不能，你怎能击退我主的臣仆中至小的一个军官呢？你竟敢依靠埃及的战车和马兵！现在，我上来攻打这地，要把它毁灭，难道不是出于耶和华吗？是耶和华对我说‘你要上去攻打这地，把它毁灭！’”

不要让希西加唆哄你们，说：耶和华必解救我们。列国的神明中，有哪一个曾解救自己的国土脱离亚述王的手呢？

其实外表上做犹太人的，并不是犹太人；外表上、肉身上的割礼，也不是割礼。然而，在内心做犹太人的才是犹太人；同样，内心的割礼才是割礼——不是靠着律法条文而是靠着圣灵；这样的人得到的称赞不是从人来的，而是从神来的。

大卫问站在旁边的人说：“如果有人击杀这非利士人，除掉以色列的羞辱，他会被怎样对待呢？这未受割礼的非利士人是谁，竟敢辱骂永生神的军队！”

那么以下就是我针对西纳基立说的话：锡安处女藐视你、嘲笑你，耶路撒冷女子在你后面摇头。你辱骂谁、亵渎谁呢？你扬起声音、高举眼目针对的是谁呢？是针对以色列的圣者！

也不要让希西加说服你们依靠耶和华，因为他会说：耶和华必定解救我们，这城必不落入亚述王手中。’

现在我告诉你们：不要管这些人，由他们去吧！因为这计划或这行为，如果是出于人，就会被拆毁；但如果是出于神，你们就不能拆毁他们，恐怕你们反而被看做是与神作对了。”于是议会的人被迦玛列说服了，

民众一直喊叫：“这是神的声音，不是人的声音。”主的一位天使立刻击打希律，因为他没有把荣耀归给神。他被虫咬蚀，就断了气。

他仆倒在地上，听见有声音对他说：“扫罗，扫罗！你为什么逼迫我？”他问：“主啊，你到底是谁？”主说：“我就是你所逼迫的耶稣。

斧头怎能向用斧伐木的人自夸呢？锯子怎能向拉锯的人自大呢？这简直是说，棍能挥动那举棍的，木杖能举起那本不是木头的人！

大约在此时，希律王下手虐待教会中的一些人，用刀杀了约翰的哥哥雅各。

你或坐或出或入，我都知道；我也知道你对我发怒。因为你对我发怒，你的骄奢安逸上达我的耳中，所以我要把钩子放进你的鼻孔，把嚼环放入你的嘴里，我必使你从原路返回。
