扫罗的一生常常与非利士人有猛烈的争战。每逢扫罗看见任何勇士或有能力的人，就都招募归他。

非利士人听见以色列人集合在米斯巴，各城的领袖就上来攻打以色列人；以色列人听见了，都害怕起来。

扫罗上去，不再追赶非利士人；非利士人也回到自己的地方去了。

那时，巴比伦王的军队正在攻打耶路撒冷和犹大剩下的城镇，就是拉吉和亚西加，因为在犹大的各城中，只剩下这两座坚固的城了。
