「你們進入並佔領你們的上帝耶和華將要賜給你們的土地，安頓下來後，就會想立自己的王，像周圍的國家一樣。那麼，你們一定要立你們的上帝耶和華揀選的人；必須立你們的以色列同胞為王，不可立外族人。

她們答道：「他在這裡，就在你們前面。你們快去吧，他今天剛到城裡來，因為今天人們在邱壇獻祭。你們一進城，就會在他上邱壇吃祭物之前遇見他。因為他不來，人們不能吃，他要先為祭物祝謝後，人們才可以吃。你們現在上去吧，一定會遇見他。」

耶穌又用比喻對他們說：「天國就像一個王為兒子籌備婚宴。他派奴僕去請受邀的客人，可是客人都不肯赴宴。王再派其他奴僕去，說，『去告訴被邀請的人，我的宴席已經備好，公牛和肥畜都宰了，一切都預備妥當，來赴婚宴吧！』
