Until the day Samuel died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned for him. And the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.

耶和華對撒母耳說：“你為掃羅悲哀要到幾時呢？我已經棄絕他作以色列的王了。你把膏油盛滿了角，然後去吧！我要差派你到伯利恆人耶西那裡去，因為我在他的眾子中，已經預定了一個為我作王。”

“我後悔立了掃羅為王，因為他已經離去不跟隨我，也不執行我的命令了。”撒母耳非常忿怒，整夜哀求耶和華。

他脫掉了自己的衣服，也在撒母耳面前受感說話。那一日，他整天整夜赤著身子躺著，因此有一句俗語說：“掃羅也列在先知中嗎？”

於是，耶和華後悔造人在地上，心中憂傷。

我常常告訴你們，現在又流著淚說，有許多人行事為人，是基督十字架的仇敵，

我的眼淚像河水湧流，因為人都不謹守你的律法。

我大大憂愁，心裡常常傷痛。為我的同胞，就是我骨肉之親，就算自己受咒詛，與基督隔絕，我也甘心。

我看見詭詐的人就討厭，因為他們不遵守你的話語。

但願我的頭是水井，我的眼是淚的泉源；我好為我同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）中被殺的，晝夜哭泣。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為8:23）但願我在曠野有一個旅客住宿的地方，好使我離開我的同胞，可以離他們而去；因為他們都是行姦淫的，是行詭詐之徒。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為9:1）
