Until the day Samuel died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned for him. And the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.

耶和华对撒母耳说：“你为扫罗悲哀要到几时呢？我已经弃绝他作以色列的王了。你把膏油盛满了角，然后去吧！我要差派你到伯利恒人耶西那里去，因为我在他的众子中，已经预定了一个为我作王。”

“我后悔立了扫罗为王，因为他已经离去不跟随我，也不执行我的命令了。”撒母耳非常忿怒，整夜哀求耶和华。

他脱掉了自己的衣服，也在撒母耳面前受感说话。那一日，他整天整夜赤着身子躺着，因此有一句俗语说：“扫罗也列在先知中吗？”

于是，耶和华后悔造人在地上，心中忧伤。

我常常告诉你们，现在又流着泪说，有许多人行事为人，是基督十字架的仇敌，

我的眼泪像河水涌流，因为人都不谨守你的律法。

我大大忧愁，心里常常伤痛。为我的同胞，就是我骨肉之亲，就算自己受咒诅，与基督隔绝，我也甘心。

我看见诡诈的人就讨厌，因为他们不遵守你的话语。

但愿我的头是水井，我的眼是泪的泉源；我好为我同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）中被杀的，昼夜哭泣。（本节在《马索拉文本》为8:23）但愿我在旷野有一个旅客住宿的地方，好使我离开我的同胞，可以离他们而去；因为他们都是行奸淫的，是行诡诈之徒。（本节在《马索拉文本》为9:1）
