Then Balaam saw Amalek and proclaimed his poem: Amalek was first among the nations, but his future is destruction.

But the city and everything in it are set apart to the LORD for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and everyone with her in the house will live, because she hid the messengers we sent.But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and make trouble for it.For all the silver and gold, and the articles of bronze and iron, are dedicated to the LORD and must go into the LORD’s treasury.”So the troops shouted, and the ram’s horns sounded. When they heard the blast of the ram’s horn, the troops gave a great shout, and the wall collapsed. The troops advanced into the city, each man straight ahead, and they captured the city.They completely destroyed everything in the city with the sword— every man and woman, both young and old, and every ox, sheep, and donkey.

So now, kill every male among the dependents and kill every woman who has gone to bed with a man,

And he said to the man,“ Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you,‘ Do not eat from it’: The ground is cursed because of you. You will eat from it by means of painful labor all the days of your life.It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.

Prepare a place of slaughter for his sons, because of the iniquity of their ancestors. They will never rise up to possess a land or fill the surface of the earth with cities.“ I will rise up against them”— this is the declaration of the LORD of Armies—“ and I will cut off from Babylon her reputation, remnant, offspring, and posterity”— this is the LORD’s declaration.

you must strike down the inhabitants of that city with the sword. Completely destroy everyone in it as well as its livestock with the sword.You are to gather all its spoil in the middle of the city square and completely burn the city and all its spoil for the LORD your God. The city is to remain a mound of ruins forever; it is not to be rebuilt.

Do not bow in worship to them, and do not serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me,

“ Nothing that a man permanently sets apart to the LORD from all he owns, whether a person, an animal, or his inherited landholding, can be sold or redeemed; everything set apart is especially holy to the LORD.No person who has been set apart for destruction is to be ransomed; he must be put to death.

For the creation was subjected to futility— not willingly, but because of him who subjected it— in the hopethat the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage to decay into the glorious freedom of God’s children.For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together with labor pains until now.
