Then Samuel got up early to meet Saul the next morning. But Samuel was informed,“ Saul has gone to Carmel where he is setting up a monument for himself. Then Samuel left and went down to Gilgal.”

And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning. And it was told Samuel,“ Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself and turned and passed on and went down to Gilgal.”

Prior to this Absalom had set up a monument and dedicated it to himself in the King’s Valley, reasoning“ I have no son who will carry on my name.” He named the monument after himself, and to this day it is known as Absalom’s Memorial.

There was a man in Maon whose business was in Carmel. This man was very wealthy; he owned three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. At that time he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

So Ahab went on up to eat and drink, while Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel. He bent down toward the ground and put his face between his knees.

The Israelites did just as Joshua commanded. They picked up twelve stones, according to the number of the Israelite tribes, from the middle of the Jordan as the LORD had instructed Joshua. They carried them over with them to the camp and put them there.Joshua also set up twelve stonesin the middle of the Jordan in the very place where the priests carrying the ark of the covenant stood. They remain there to this very day.

Samuel took a stone and placed it between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying,“ Up to here the LORD has helped us.”
