掃羅說：『人民所有的中堅人物啊，你們都要走近前來到這裏，來察知、來看明今天這罪是在哪裏。

掃羅說：「所有軍兵的首領，你們都上這裡來，要查看今天這罪是怎麼發生的！

掃羅曰、爾民長俱前來、察知今日之罪何在、

掃羅曰、惟爾民長、咸必前來、欲知今日誰干罪戾、

掃羅曰、惟爾民長、咸當來此、究察今日之罪因何故、或作今日誰干罪戾

Saul therefore said,“ Come here, all you who are leaders of the army, and let us find out what sin has been committed today.

And Saul said,“ Come over here, all you chiefs of the people, and know and see what this sin was today.

And Saul said, Draw nigh hither, all ye chiefs of the people; and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.

Saul said,“ All you leaders of the troops, come here. Let us investigate how this sin has occurred today.

And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.

Then Saul said,“ All you leaders of the army come here. Find out how this sin occurred today.

Saul said,“ Draw near here, all you chiefs of the people; and know and see in which this sin has been today.

But though I have rescued you from your misery and distress, you have rejected your God today and have said,‘ No, we want a king instead!’ Now, therefore, present yourselves before the Lord by tribes and clans.”So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel before the Lord, and the tribe of Benjamin was chosen by lot.

The leaders of all the people and all the tribes of Israel— 400,000 warriors armed with swords— took their positions in the assembly of the people of God.

From Judah will come the cornerstone, the tent peg, the bow for battle, and all the rulers.

Israel has sinned and broken my covenant! They have stolen some of the things that I commanded must be set apart for me. And they have not only stolen them but have lied about it and hidden the things among their own belongings.

Then Jesus asked them,“ Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures?‘ The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.’

But his men objected strongly.“ You must not go,” they urged.“ If we have to turn and run— and even if half of us die— it will make no difference to Absalom’s troops; they will be looking only for you. You are worth 10,000 of us, and it is better that you stay here in the town and send help if we need it.”

“ In the morning you must present yourselves by tribes, and the Lord will point out the tribe to which the guilty man belongs. That tribe must come forward with its clans, and the Lord will point out the guilty clan. That clan will then come forward, and the Lord will point out the guilty family. Finally, each member of the guilty family must come forward one by one.The one who has stolen what was set apart for destruction will himself be burned with fire, along with everything he has, for he has broken the covenant of the Lord and has done a horrible thing in Israel.”Early the next morning Joshua brought the tribes of Israel before the Lord, and the tribe of Judah was singled out.Then the clans of Judah came forward, and the clan of Zerah was singled out. Then the families of Zerah came forward, and the family of Zimri was singled out.Every member of Zimri’s family was brought forward person by person, and Achan was singled out.Then Joshua said to Achan,“ My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, by telling the truth. Make your confession and tell me what you have done. Don’t hide it from me.”Achan replied,“ It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel.Among the plunder I saw a beautiful robe from Babylon, 200 silver coins, and a bar of gold weighing more than a pound. I wanted them so much that I took them. They are hidden in the ground beneath my tent, with the silver buried deeper than the rest.”So Joshua sent some men to make a search. They ran to the tent and found the stolen goods hidden there, just as Achan had said, with the silver buried beneath the rest.They took the things from the tent and brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites. Then they laid them on the ground in the presence of the Lord.Then Joshua and all the Israelites took Achan, the silver, the robe, the bar of gold, his sons, daughters, cattle, donkeys, sheep, goats, tent, and everything he had, and they brought them to the valley of Achor.Then Joshua said to Achan,“ Why have you brought trouble on us? The Lord will now bring trouble on you.” And all the Israelites stoned Achan and his family and burned their bodies.They piled a great heap of stones over Achan, which remains to this day. That is why the place has been called the Valley of Trouble ever since. So the Lord was no longer angry.

Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.

I see him, but not here and now. I perceive him, but far in the distant future. A star will rise from Jacob; a scepter will emerge from Israel. It will crush the heads of Moab’s people, cracking the skulls of the people of Sheth.

The rulers of the world have gathered together with the people of the God of Abraham. For all the kings of the earth belong to God. He is highly honored everywhere.
