Then Saul said,“ Let’s chase the Philistines all night and plunder them until sunrise. Let’s destroy every last one of them.” His men replied,“ We’ll do whatever you think is best.” But the priest said,“ Let’s ask God first.”

他对以色列人说：“让我们连夜追赶非利士人，抢夺他们的财物，直到天亮，把他们全部歼灭。”众人答道：“就照你的意思。”但祭司说：“让我们先来求问上帝吧。”

扫罗说：“我们趁着晚上下去追赶非利士人，抢掠他们，直到天亮，不让他们留下一人。”他们说：“你看怎么好，就怎么行吧！”但祭司说：“我们先在这里亲近神！”

扫罗说：“我们要趁夜下去追赶非利士人，掠夺他们直到天亮，不让他们一人存留。”军兵说：“你看怎样好就怎样做吧！”但祭司说：“让我们在这里求问神。”

Saul said,“ Let us go down and pursue the Philistines by night and plunder them till dawn, and let us not leave one of them alive.”“ Do whatever seems best to you,” they replied. But the priest said,“ Let us inquire of God here.”

Saul said,“ Let’s go down and chase after the Philistines tonight. Let’s not leave even one of them alive. Let’s take everything they have before morning.”“ Do what you think is best,” they replied. But the priest said,“ Let’s ask God for advice first.”

Then Saul said,“ Let us go down after the Philistines by night and plunder them until the morning light; let us not leave a man of them.” And they said,“ Do whatever seems good to you.” But the priest said,“ Let us draw near to God here.”

Saul said,“ Let’s go down after the Philistines tonight and plunder them until morning. Don’t let even one remain!”“ Do whatever you want,” the troops replied. But the priest said,“ Let’s approach God here.”

Then Saul said,“ Let’s go down after the Philistines by night and take plunder among them until the morning light, and let’s not leave a man among them alive.” And they said,“ Do whatever seems good to you.” So the priest said,“ Let’s approach God here.”

Now Saul said,“ Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and plunder them until the morning light; and let us not leave a man of them.” And they said,“ Do whatever seems good to you.” Then the priest said,“ Let us draw near to God here.”

And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.

Saul said,“ Let’s go down after the Philistines tonight and plunder them until morning. Don’t let even one remain!”“ Do whatever you want,” the troops replied. But the priest said,“ We must consult God here.”

And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.

Saul said,“ Let’s go down after the Philistines at night; we will rout them until the break of day. We won’t leave any of them alive!” They replied,“ Do whatever seems best to you.” But the priest said,“ Let’s approach God here.”

Saul said,“ Let’s go down after the Philistines by night, and take plunder among them until the morning light, and let’s not leave a man of them.” They said,“ Do whatever seems good to you.” Then the priest said,“ Let’s draw near here to God.”

“ Listen to me, O family of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel and born into the family of Judah. Listen, you who take oaths in the name of the Lord and call on the God of Israel. You don’t keep your promises,even though you call yourself the holy city and talk about depending on the God of Israel, whose name is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

And the Israelites took all the plunder and livestock of the ravaged towns for themselves. But they killed all the people, leaving no survivors.

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

Among Saul’s men was Ahijah the priest, who was wearing the ephod, the priestly vest. Ahijah was the son of Ichabod’s brother Ahitub, son of Phinehas, son of Eli, the priest of the Lord who had served at Shiloh. No one realized that Jonathan had left the Israelite camp.

Yet they act so pious! They come to the Temple every day and seem delighted to learn all about me. They act like a righteous nation that would never abandon the laws of its God. They ask me to take action on their behalf, pretending they want to be near me.

The rest of you continue chasing the enemy and cut them down from the rear. Don’t give them a chance to get back to their towns, for the Lord your God has given you victory over them.”

‘ Well then, let’s attack at night and destroy her palaces!’”

Joshua traveled all night from Gilgal and took the Amorite armies by surprise.The Lord threw them into a panic, and the Israelites slaughtered great numbers of them at Gibeon. Then the Israelites chased the enemy along the road to Beth horon, killing them all along the way to Azekah and Makkedah.As the Amorites retreated down the road from Beth horon, the Lord destroyed them with a terrible hailstorm from heaven that continued until they reached Azekah. The hail killed more of the enemy than the Israelites killed with the sword.On the day the Lord gave the Israelites victory over the Amorites, Joshua prayed to the Lord in front of all the people of Israel. He said,“ Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.”So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies. Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day.There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the Lord answered such a prayer. Surely the Lord fought for Israel that day!

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

“ The words of a priest’s lips should preserve knowledge of God, and people should go to him for instruction, for the priest is the messenger of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do.

Then Saul shouted to Ahijah,“ Bring the ephod here!” For at that time Ahijah was wearing the ephod in front of the Israelites.But while Saul was talking to the priest, the confusion in the Philistine camp grew louder and louder. So Saul said to the priest,“ Never mind; let’s get going!”

But before dawn the next morning, Saul arrived, having divided his army into three detachments. He launched a surprise attack against the Ammonites and slaughtered them the whole morning. The remnant of their army was so badly scattered that no two of them were left together.
