Now the men of Israel were hard pressed that day, for Saul had made the army agree to this oath:“ Cursed be the man who eats food before evening! I will get my vengeance on my enemies!” So no one in the army ate anything.

Now the Israelites were in distress that day, because Saul had bound the people under an oath, saying,“ Cursed be anyone who eats food before evening comes, before I have avenged myself on my enemies!” So none of the troops tasted food.

The Israelites became very hungry that day. That’s because Saul had forced the army to make a promise. He had said,“ None of you must eat any food before evening comes. You must not eat until I’ve paid my enemies back for what they did. If you do, may you be under a curse!” So none of the troops ate any food at all.

And the men of Israel had been hard pressed that day, so Saul had laid an oath on the people, saying,“ Cursed be the man who eats food until it is evening and I am avenged on my enemies.” So none of the people had tasted food.

Now the men of Israel were pressed to exhaustion that day, because Saul had placed them under an oath, saying,“ Let a curse fall on anyone who eats before evening— before I have full revenge on my enemies.” So no one ate anything all day,

With his speech the godless person destroys his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous will be delivered.

‘ Cursed is the one who makes a carved or metal image– something abhorrent to the LORD, the work of the craftsman– and sets it up in a secret place.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who disrespects his father and mother.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who moves his neighbor’s boundary marker.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who misleads a blind person on the road.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who perverts justice for the resident foreigner, the orphan, and the widow.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his father’s former wife, for he dishonors his father.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who commits bestiality.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his sister, the daughter of either his father or mother.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his mother-in-law.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who kills his neighbor in private.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who refuses to keep the words of this law.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’

The Israelites had taken an oath in Mizpah, saying,“ Not one of us will allow his daughter to marry a Benjaminite.”So the people came to Bethel and sat there before God until evening, weeping loudly and uncontrollably.They said,“ Why, O LORD God of Israel, has this happened in Israel?” An entire tribe has disappeared from Israel today!”The next morning the people got up early and built an altar there. They offered up burnt sacrifices and token of peace.The Israelites asked,“ Who from all the Israelite tribes has not assembled before the LORD?” They had made a solemn oath that whoever did not assemble before the LORD at Mizpah must certainly be executed.

“ When the leaders took the lead in Israel, When the people answered the call to war– Praise the LORD!

Whenever Israel was strong militarily, they forced the Canaanites to do hard labor, but they never totally conquered them.

The one true God completely vindicates me; he makes nations submit to me.

But Jonathan had not heard about the oath his father had made the army take. He extended the end of his staff that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb. When he ate it, his eyes gleamed.Then someone from the army informed him,“ Your father put the army under a strict oath saying,‘ Cursed be the man who eats food today!’ That is why the army is tired.”Then Jonathan said,“ My father has caused trouble for the land. See how my eyes gleamed when I tasted just a little of this honey.Certainly if the army had eaten some of the enemies’ provisions that they came across today, would not the slaughter of the Philistines have been even greater?”

Let anyone who has no love for the Lord be accursed. Our Lord, come!

Any human being who is permanently dedicated must not be ransomed; such a person must be put to death.

So Israel made a vow to the LORD and said,“ If you will indeed deliver this people into our hand, then we will utterly destroy their cities.”

The city and all that is in it must be set apart for the LORD, except for Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house, because she hid the spies we sent.But be careful when you are setting apart the riches for the LORD. If you take any of it, you will make the Israelite camp subject to annihilation and cause a disaster.All the silver and gold, as well as bronze and iron items, belong to the LORD. They must go into the LORD’s treasury.”

Jephthah made a vow to the LORD, saying,“ If you really do hand the Ammonites over to me,then whoever is the first to come through the doors of my house to meet me when I return safely from fighting the Ammonites– he will belong to the LORD and I will offer him up as a burnt sacrifice.”
