Now the men of Israel were hard pressed on that day, for Saul had put the people under oath, saying,“ Cursed be the man who eats food before evening, and before I have avenged myself on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.

當日掃羅與民發誓、曰、毋食餱糧、迨夕乃可、犯者見詛、俟我盡報斯仇。因此以色列族不嘗食物、困憊特甚。

Now the Israelites were in distress that day, because Saul had bound the people under an oath, saying,“ Cursed be anyone who eats food before evening comes, before I have avenged myself on my enemies!” So none of the troops tasted food.

The Israelites became very hungry that day. That’s because Saul had forced the army to make a promise. He had said,“ None of you must eat any food before evening comes. You must not eat until I’ve paid my enemies back for what they did. If you do, may you be under a curse!” So none of the troops ate any food at all.

And the men of Israel had been hard pressed that day, so Saul had laid an oath on the people, saying,“ Cursed be the man who eats food until it is evening and I am avenged on my enemies.” So none of the people had tasted food.

Now the men of Israel were pressed to exhaustion that day, because Saul had placed them under an oath, saying,“ Let a curse fall on anyone who eats before evening— before I have full revenge on my enemies.” So no one ate anything all day,

and the men of Israel were worn out that day, for Saul had placed the troops under an oath:“ The man who eats food before evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies is cursed.” So none of the troops tasted any food.

Then Joshua made them take an oath at that time, saying,“ Cursed before the Lord is the man who rises up and builds this city Jericho; with the loss of his firstborn he will lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.

With his mouth the godless person destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be rescued.

‘ Cursed is the person who makes a carved image or cast metal image, an abomination to the Lord, the work of the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And all the people shall reply and say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is one who treats his father or mother contemptuously.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is one who displaces his neighbor’s boundary marker.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is one who misleads a person who is blind on the road.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is one who distorts the justice due a stranger, an orphan, or a widow.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is he who sleeps with his father’s wife, because he has uncovered his father’s garment.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is one who has sexual intercourse with any animal.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is he who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or of his mother.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is he who sleeps with his mother in law.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is he who attacks his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to attack an innocent person.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’‘ Cursed is anyone who does not fulfill the words of this Law by doing them.’ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen.’

Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying,“ None of us shall give his daughter to Benjamin in marriage.”So the people came to Bethel and sat there before God until evening, and raised their voices and wept profusely.And they said,“ Why, Lord, God of Israel, has this happened in Israel, that one tribe is missing today from Israel?”And it came about the next day that the people got up early and built an altar there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.Then the sons of Israel said,“ Who is there among all the tribes of Israel who did not go up to the Lord in the assembly?” For they had taken a solemn oath concerning anyone who did not go up to the Lord at Mizpah, saying,“ He shall certainly be put to death.”

“ For the leaders leading in Israel, For the people volunteering, Bless the Lord!

And it came about, when Israel became strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor; but they did not drive them out completely.

The God who executes vengeance for me, And subdues peoples under me.

However, Jonathan had not heard it when his father put the people under oath; so he put out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.Then one of the people responded and said,“ Your father strictly put the people under oath, saying,‘ Cursed be the man who eats food today.’ ” And the people were weary.Then Jonathan said,“ My father has troubled the land. See now that my eyes have brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.How much more, if only the people had freely eaten today of the spoils of their enemies which they found! For now the defeat among the Philistines has not been great.”

If anyone does not love the Lord, he is to be accursed. Maranatha!

No one who may have been set apart among mankind shall be ransomed; he must be put to death.

So Israel made a vow to the Lord and said,“ If You will indeed hand over this people to me, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”

But the city shall be designated for destruction, it and everything that is in it belongs to the Lord; only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in the house shall live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent.But as for you, only keep yourselves from the things designated for destruction, so that you do not covet them and take some of the designated things, and turn the camp of Israel into something designated for destruction and bring disaster on it.But all the silver and gold, and articles of bronze and iron are holy to the Lord; they shall go into the treasury of the Lord.”

And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord and said,“ If You will indeed hand over to me the sons of Ammon,then whatever comes out the doors of my house to meet me when I return safely from the sons of Ammon, it shall be the Lord’s, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.”
