Then panic struck the whole army— those in the camp and field, and those in the outposts and raiding parties— and the ground shook. It was a panic sent by God.

時、有掠兵由非利士營出、分為三隊、一隊往俄弗拉向書亞地、

遂啟行前往、天主使四周城邑之民咸懼、不追雅各子、

爾聞桑樹杪有步履聲、則當速往、因其時主已先爾而行、攻非利士之軍旅、

先是主使亞蘭軍旅、聞車聲馬聲大軍之聲、則相語曰、以色列王必賄赫族諸王與伊及諸王、俱來攻我、故昏暮即起而逃遁、遺其帳幕馬驢、留營如舊、但願逃生、

四周有患難使之恐惶、追其足後、

有非利士卒、至密抹隘口列營焉、

彼眾必大驚懼、因天主保祐善類、

爾中遺民、居於敵國、我使之心驚膽怯、聞風吹葉、亦必逃遁、以為有敵人恃刃逐之、雖無人追襲、亦必傾跌、無人追襲時亦必逃遁、彼此衝突躓蹶、如有刃擊殺、爾不能立於敵前、

則愕然變色、中心惶恐悚懼、腰弱若骨脫節、兩膝戰慄、彼此相擊、

遍山皆煙、煙燄上騰、如窰之煙、全山大震、

爾將聞戰及戰之風聲、慎勿懼、此事必有、惟末期尚未至、

謂之曰、主已將此地賜爾、為我所知、我儕悉懼爾、斯地一切居民、皆緣爾喪膽、

各立其所、在營四圍、全營之人、皆亂而趨、呼號而逃、

耶穌復大聲而呼、氣遂絕、倏見殿幔、自上至下、分裂為二、地震磐裂、
