有一次，所罗门王上基遍献了一千头祭牲作燔祭，因为那里有最重要的丘坛。

大卫在麦场上为耶和华建了一座坛，献上燔祭和平安祭，耶和华垂听了他的祷告，瘟疫就在以色列止住了。

耶和华憎恨恶人的祭物，悦纳正直人的祈祷。

秉公行义比献祭更蒙耶和华喜悦。

我想非利士人就要到吉甲来攻打我们了，但我们还没有向耶和华求助，我迫不得已，就献上燔祭了。”撒母耳说：“你真糊涂！你违背了你的上帝耶和华的命令。祂本来要使你的王位在以色列永远坚立，

“至于那些任意妄为、以行可憎之事为乐、宰牛就像杀人、献羊羔就像打断狗颈、献谷物就像献猪血、烧香就像颂赞偶像的人，

恶人的祭物已经可憎，何况他怀着恶意来献！

不要说：“我要以恶报恶”，要等候耶和华替你申冤。
