Jonathan attacked the Philistine outpost at Geba, and the Philistines heard about it. Then Saul had the trumpet blown throughout the land and said,“ Let the Hebrews hear!”

Some Philistine soldiers were stationed at Geba. Jonathan attacked them. The other Philistines heard about it. Saul announced,“ Let the Hebrew people hear about what has happened!” He had trumpets blown all through the land.

Jonathan defeated the garrison of the Philistines that was at Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying,“ Let the Hebrews hear.”

Soon after this, Jonathan attacked and defeated the garrison of Philistines at Geba. The news spread quickly among the Philistines. So Saul blew the ram’s horn throughout the land, saying,“ Hebrews, hear this! Rise up in revolt!”

那时大卫在山寨，非利士人的驻军在伯利恒。

基法‧阿摩尼、俄弗尼和迦巴，共十二座城，以及所属的村庄；

又从便雅悯支派的地业中给了基遍和城的郊外、迦巴和城的郊外、

他们过了隘口，要在迦巴住宿。拉玛战兢，扫罗的基比亚逃命。

扫罗和他儿子约拿单，以及跟随他们的百姓，都住在便雅悯的迦巴，非利士人却在密抹安营。

于是约押吹角，众百姓就站住，不再追赶以色列人，也不再打仗了。

有一日，扫罗的儿子约拿单对拿他兵器的青年说：“来，我们过去到非利士的驻军那里。”但他没有告诉父亲。扫罗在基比亚的郊外，坐在米矶仑的石榴树下，跟随他的百姓约有六百人。在那里有亚希突的儿子亚希亚，穿着以弗得。亚希突是以迦博的哥哥，非尼哈的儿子，以利的孙子。以利从前在示罗作耶和华的祭司。约拿单去了，百姓却不知道。约拿单要从隘口过到非利士驻军那里去。这隘口两边各有一座齿状峭壁：一座名叫播薛，另一座名叫西尼；一座向北，对着密抹，一座向南，对着迦巴。约拿单对拿兵器的青年说：“来，我们过去到那些未受割礼之人的驻军那里，或者耶和华为我们施展能力，因为耶和华使人得胜，不在乎人多人少。”
