“因此耶和华以色列的神宣告：我确实说过，你和你的父家要永远行在我面前。但现在，耶和华宣告：绝不会这样了！因为尊重我的，我必尊重他；轻视我的，他必被藐视。

耶西就派人去把他带来；他面色红润，双目清秀，样貌英俊。耶和华说：“起来膏抹他，就是这个人！”

“明天大约这个时候，我会从本雅明地派遣一个人到你这里，你要膏立他作我子民以色列的领袖。他将拯救我的子民脱离非利士人的手，因为我眷顾我的子民，他们的哀声已经达到我这里。”

万有因他而有、万有藉他而成的那一位，既然要带领许多儿女归于荣耀，就藉着苦难使他们救恩的元首得以成全，这是合宜的，

大卫在神面前蒙了恩典，就祈求为雅各的神预备一个居所。

耶和华对撒母耳说：“你为扫罗悲恸要到什么时候呢？我已经厌弃他作以色列的王。你把犄角装满膏油，去吧，我要派遣你到伯利恒人耶西那里，因为我在他的儿子中选定了一个王。”

他拣选了自己的仆人大卫，从羊圈中把他挑选出来，
