之后，上帝废掉扫罗，选立大卫做王，并为他作证说，‘我找到了耶西的儿子大卫，他是合我心意的人，他必遵行我一切的旨意。’

撒母耳对他说：“耶和华今天已经从你身上拿走了以色列国的王位，赐给了一个比你好的人。

你曾在异象中对你忠心的子民说：“我已把力量赐给一位勇士，已擢升我在民中拣选的人。我找到了我的仆人大卫，用我的圣油膏立他。我的手必扶持他，我的臂膀必加给他力量。仇敌胜不过他，恶人不能欺压他。我要当着他的面击垮他的敌人，打倒恨他的人。我要以信实和慈爱待他，他必因我的名而充满力量。我要使他左手掌管大海，右手统治江河。他要向我高呼，‘你是我的父亲，我的上帝，拯救我的磐石。’我要立他为我的长子，使他做天下至尊的君王。我要永远用慈爱待他，我与他立的约永不更改。我要使他的后裔永无穷尽，让他的王位与天同存。如果他的后代背弃我的律法，不遵行我的典章，触犯我的律例，不守我的诫命，我就会因他们的罪用杖惩罚他们，用鞭子责打他们。但我不会收回我的慈爱，也不会背弃我的信实。我必不毁约，也不食言。因我曾凭自己的圣洁向大卫起誓，我绝无谎言。他的后裔必永无穷尽，他的王位必在我面前如日长存，又如天上亘古不变的月亮，永远坚立。”（细拉）

“所以，以色列的上帝耶和华宣告说，‘我曾经应许让你们家族永远做我的祭司。’但现在耶和华宣布，‘这绝不可能了。尊重我的，我必尊重他；藐视我的，必遭藐视。

“回去告诉我子民的首领希西迦，‘你祖先大卫的上帝耶和华说，我已听见你的祷告，看见了你的眼泪。我要医治你，三天后你就可以上耶和华的殿。

耶西就派人去叫他回来。他面色红润，眉清目秀，相貌英俊。耶和华说：“就是他，起来膏立他吧。”

“明天这个时候，我会从便雅悯境内差遣一个人到你这里，你要膏立他做我以色列子民的首领，他会从非利士人手中把我的子民拯救出来，因为我已听到我子民的呼求，我要施恩给他们。”

但我的慈爱却不会像离开从你面前被废的扫罗那样离开他。你的家和你的国必在我面前永远坚立，你的王位必永远稳固。’”

作为万物的归宿和根源的上帝，叫救恩的元帅耶稣经历苦难而得以纯全，以便带领许多的儿女进入荣耀，这样的安排是恰当的。

大卫蒙上帝悦纳，祈求为雅各的上帝建造一座圣殿。
