He took a pair of oxen, cut them into pieces, and sent the pieces by messengers throughout Israel, proclaiming,“ This is what will be done to the oxen of anyone who does not follow Saul and Samuel.” Then the terror of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out together as one.

犹大四围地上的邦国都惧怕耶和华，不敢与约沙法争战。

又攻打基拉耳四围一切的城镇；城中的人都惧怕耶和华。犹大人掳掠了一切的城镇，因其中的财物很多，

以色列人说：“以色列各支派中，谁没有同会众一起上到耶和华那里呢？”因为以色列人曾起重誓说：“凡不上米斯巴到耶和华那里的，必被处死。”以色列人怜悯他们的弟兄便雅悯，说：“如今以色列中断绝一个支派了。我们既然向耶和华起誓说，必不把我们的女儿嫁给便雅悯人，现在我们该怎么办，使他们剩下的人可以娶妻呢？”他们又说：“以色列支派中谁没有上米斯巴到耶和华那里呢？”看哪，基列的雅比没有一人进营到会众那里，百姓被数点的时候，看哪，基列的雅比居民没有一人在那里。会众就派一万二千名大勇士，吩咐他们说：“你们去用刀把基列的雅比居民连妇女带孩子都杀了。这是你们当做的事：要把所有男人和曾与男人同房共寝的女人全都杀了。”

他们起行。上帝使周围城镇的人都惊恐，就不追赶雅各的儿子们了。
