He took a pair of oxen, cut them into pieces, and sent the pieces by messengers throughout Israel, proclaiming,“ This is what will be done to the oxen of anyone who does not follow Saul and Samuel.” Then the terror of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out together as one.

He got a pair of oxen and cut them into pieces. He sent the pieces by messengers all through Israel. They announced,“ You must follow Saul and Samuel. If you don’t, this is what will happen to your oxen.” The terror of the Lord fell on the people. So all of them came together with one purpose in mind.

He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hand of the messengers, saying,“ Whoever does not come out after Saul and Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen!” Then the dread of the Lord fell upon the people, and they came out as one man.

And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

到了家裏，他就把妾抓住，用刀將妾的肢體切成十二塊，送遍以色列四境。

於是以色列眾人都出來，從但到別是巴、以及基列地、會眾都聚集在米斯巴永恆主面前、如同一人。

猶大四圍各地的列國都起了畏懼永恆主的心，不敢同約沙法交戰。

他們又擊破了基拉耳四圍的所有的城；因為各城的人都起了懼怕永恆主的心。猶大人又將所有的城掠劫一空，因為各城有可掠劫的財物很多。

以色列人彼此對問說：『以色列眾族派中、誰沒有跟大眾上到永恆主面前呢？』因為以色列人曾經起過大誓說：『凡不上米斯巴到永恆主面前的、必須被處死。』以色列人就為他們的族弟兄便雅憫而後悔、說：『今日以色列中就有一族派被砍掉了。我們既指着永恆主起過誓必不將我們的女兒給便雅憫人為妻，那麼我們現在應當怎樣辦理，使他們剩下的人有妻子呢？』以色列人就彼此對問說：『以色列族派中哪一個人沒有上米斯巴到永恆主面前呢？』就查出基列雅比沒有一個人進營到大眾中；眾民被點閱，就查出基列雅比的居民沒有一個在那裏。會眾就從壯士中打發一萬二千人到那裏，吩咐他們說：『你們去將基列雅比的居民、都用刀擊殺掉，連婦女帶小孩都要殺。你們要這樣行：一切男的、跟一切婦女、和人同房過、和男的共寢過的、你們都要盡行殺滅歸神。』

他們便起行，隨有極大的驚慌佈滿了四圍的城市，他們就不追趕雅各的兒子了。
