And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent[ them] throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

He took a pair of oxen, cut them into pieces, and sent the pieces by messengers throughout Israel, proclaiming,“ This is what will be done to the oxen of anyone who does not follow Saul and Samuel.” Then the terror of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out together as one.

And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her,[ together] with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpeh.

And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that[ were] round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

And the children of Israel said, Who[ is there] among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?And they said, What one[ is there] of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.For the people were numbered, and, behold,[ there were] none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.And this[ is] the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.

And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that[ were] round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
