你要在我以先下到吉甲。看哪，我必下到你那裏獻燔祭和平安祭。你要等候七日，等我到你那裏指示你當做的事。」

撒母耳召集百姓到米斯巴耶和華那裏。

現今你們竟然狂傲自誇；凡這樣的自誇都是邪惡的。

他差派以色列的年輕人去獻燔祭，又宰牛獻給耶和華為平安祭。

次日，他們向耶和華獻平安祭和燔祭，獻一千頭公牛、一千隻公綿羊、一千隻羔羊，以及同獻的澆酒祭，並為以色列眾人獻許多的祭。那日，他們在耶和華面前吃喝，大大歡樂。他們再次立大衛的兒子所羅門作王，膏他歸耶和華作君王，又膏撒督作祭司。於是所羅門坐在耶和華所賜的王位上，接續他父親大衛作王；他萬事亨通，全以色列都聽從他。眾領袖和勇士，以及大衛王的眾兒子，都順服所羅門王。

現在，看哪，這就是你們所選的、你們所求的王。看哪，耶和華已經為你們立王了。你們若敬畏耶和華，事奉他，聽從他的話，不違背耶和華的命令，你們和治理你們的王也都跟從耶和華－你們的上帝就好了。倘若不聽從耶和華的話，違背他的命令，耶和華的手必攻擊你們，像從前攻擊你們祖先一樣。

百姓卻不肯聽撒母耳的話，說：「不！我們一定要一個王治理我們，

這不是割麥子的時候嗎？我求告耶和華，他必打雷降雨，讓你們知道並且看出，你們為自己求立王的事在耶和華眼前是犯大罪了。」

現在，你的王在哪裏呢？讓他在你的各城中拯救你吧！你曾說「給我立君王和官長」，那些治理你的又在哪裏呢？我在怒氣中將王賜給你，又在烈怒中將王廢去。
