撒母耳召集百姓到米斯巴耶和华那里。

现今你们竟然狂傲自夸；凡这样的自夸都是邪恶的。

次日，他们向耶和华献平安祭和燔祭，献一千头公牛、一千只公绵羊、一千只羔羊，以及同献的浇酒祭，并为以色列众人献许多的祭。那日，他们在耶和华面前吃喝，大大欢乐。他们再次立大卫的儿子所罗门作王，膏他归耶和华作君王，又膏撒督作祭司。于是所罗门坐在耶和华所赐的王位上，接续他父亲大卫作王；他万事亨通，全以色列都听从他。众领袖和勇士，以及大卫王的众儿子，都顺服所罗门王。

现在，看哪，这就是你们所选的、你们所求的王。看哪，耶和华已经为你们立王了。你们若敬畏耶和华，事奉他，听从他的话，不违背耶和华的命令，你们和治理你们的王也都跟从耶和华—你们的上帝就好了。倘若不听从耶和华的话，违背他的命令，耶和华的手必攻击你们，像从前攻击你们祖先一样。

百姓却不肯听撒母耳的话，说：“不！我们一定要一个王治理我们，

这不是割麦子的时候吗？我求告耶和华，他必打雷降雨，让你们知道并且看出，你们为自己求立王的事在耶和华眼前是犯大罪了。”

现在，你的王在哪里呢？让他在你的各城中拯救你吧！你曾说“给我立君王和官长”，那些治理你的又在哪里呢？我在怒气中将王赐给你，又在烈怒中将王废去。
