So all the people went to Gilgal, and there in the LORD’s presence they made Saul king. There they sacrificed fellowship offerings in the LORD’s presence, and Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

Afterward, go ahead of me to Gilgal. I will come to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice fellowship offerings. Wait seven days until I come to you and show you what to do.”

Samuel summoned the people to the LORD at Mizpah

But as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

Then he sent out young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as fellowship offerings to the LORD.

The following day they offered sacrifices to the LORD and burnt offerings to the LORD: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, along with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.They ate and drank with great joy in the LORD’s presence that day. Then, for a second time, they made David’s son Solomon king; they anointed him as the LORD’s ruler, and Zadok as the priest.Solomon sat on the LORD’s throne as king in place of his father David. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.All the leaders and the mighty men, and all of King David’s sons as well, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.

“ Now here is the king you’ve chosen, the one you requested. Look, this is the king the LORD has placed over you.If you fear the LORD, worship and obey him, and if you don’t rebel against the LORD’s command, then both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the LORD your God.However, if you disobey the LORD and rebel against his command, the LORD’s hand will be against you as it was against your ancestors.

The people refused to listen to Samuel.“ No!” they said.“ We must have a king over us.

Isn’t the wheat harvest today? I will call on the LORD, and he will send thunder and rain so that you will recognize what an immense evil you committed in the LORD’s sight by requesting a king for yourselves.”

Where now is your king, that he may save you in all your cities, and the rulers you demanded, saying,“ Give me a king and leaders”?I give you a king in my anger and take away a king in my wrath.
