你要在我以先下到吉甲去，我也要下到你那里去献燔祭和平安祭。你要等候七天，等我到了你那里，指示你所当行的。”

撒母耳召集众民到米斯巴耶和华那里，

但现在你们竟然张狂自夸；这一切自夸，都是邪恶的。

又派了以色列人中的青年人去献燔祭，又向耶和华杀牛献为平安祭。

第二天，他们向耶和华献祭，他们向耶和华献上燔祭；那一天他们献了公牛一千头、公绵羊一千只、羊羔一千只，以及同献的奠祭，又为以色列众人献了许多祭。那一天，他们十分喜乐地在耶和华面前吃喝。他们再次表示拥立大卫的儿子所罗门作王，膏他为耶和华作君王，又膏撒督作祭司。于是所罗门坐在耶和华所赐的位上，接续他父亲大卫作王；他凡事亨通，以色列众人都听从他。众领袖和勇士，以及大卫王的众子，都顺服所罗门王。

现在，你们所拣选、所要求的王在这里。看哪！耶和华已经立了一个王统治你们。如果你们敬畏耶和华，事奉他，听从他的话，不违背他的命令，你们和统治你们的王就必跟从耶和华你们的神。但是，如果你们不听从耶和华的话，违背他的命令，耶和华的手就必攻击你们，好像攻击你们的列祖一样（“好像攻击你们的列祖一样”直译是“和攻击你们的列祖”；《七十士译本》作“和攻击你们的王”）。

众民竟不肯听从撒母耳的话，说：“不，我们要一个王治理我们，

现今不是收割麦子的时候吗？我要向耶和华呼求，他就会打雷降雨，你们就可以知道，又可以看见，你们为自己要求立王的事，在耶和华看来，是行了极大的恶事。”

现在你的王在哪里？让他拯救你吧！你所有的领袖在哪里？让他们治理你吧！因为论到他们你曾请求：‘把王和领袖赐给我。’我在忿怒中把王赐给你，又在烈怒中把他废去。
