But some scoundrels said,“ How can this fellow save us?” They despised him and brought him no gifts. But Saul kept silent.

But some people who wanted to stir up trouble said,“ How can this fellow save us?” They looked down on him. They didn’t bring him any gifts. But Saul kept quiet about it.

But some worthless fellows said,“ How can this man save us?” And they despised him and brought him no present. But he held his peace.

But Saul ignored them.[ Nahash, king of the Ammonites, had been grievously oppressing the people of Gad and Reuben who lived east of the Jordan River. In fact, of all the Israelites east of the Jordan, there wasn’t a single one whose right eye Nahash had not gouged out. But there were 7,000 men who had escaped from the Ammonites, and they had settled in Jabesh gilead.]

以利的兩個兒子是卑劣之徒，不尊重耶和華，

眾人都默不作聲，一句也不回應，因為希西加王有令說：「不許回應他。」

塔爾施和眾海島的君王們將帶來貢物，示巴和西拔的君王們將獻上禮物。

民眾對撒母耳說：「那些說『掃羅怎麼能統治我們』的人是誰呢？把那些人交出來，我們要把他們殺掉。」

「這摩西就是他們拒絕說『誰委任你做首領和審判官』的那位，神卻藉著那在荊棘中向他顯現的天使的手，差派他做首領、做救贖者。

「你們這些頑固不化、心和耳都未受割禮的人哪，你們總是抗拒聖靈！你們的祖先怎樣，你們也怎樣。有哪一位先知，你們的祖先不逼迫呢？他們殺了那些預言那義者要來的先知，現在你們又成為那義者的出賣者和凶手了。

他們進了屋子，看見那孩子與他的母親瑪麗亞在一起，就俯伏拜那孩子，然後打開他們的寶盒，把黃金、乳香和沒藥做為禮物獻給他。

有一個卑劣之徒恰巧在那裡，他名叫示巴，是便雅憫人比基利的兒子。他吹響號角，說：「我們與大衛無份，在耶西的兒子那裡沒有繼業！以色列啊，各人回自己的帳篷吧！」

至於我，我就像耳聾的不能聽見，像啞巴不能開口。

可是當他被祭司長們和長老們控告的時候，什麼都不回應。彼拉多對他說：「他們控告你這麼多的事，你沒有聽見嗎？」耶穌連一句話也不回答，以致總督感到非常驚奇。

他又擊敗摩押人，讓他們趴在地上用繩子量，每兩繩內的都處死，第三繩內的就存留；這樣摩押就臣服於大衛，向他進貢。
