「到了耶和華－你神所賜你的地，得了那地居住的時候，若說：『我要立王治理我，像四圍的國一樣。』你總要立耶和華－你神所揀選的人為王。必從你弟兄中立一人；不可立你弟兄以外的人為王。只是王不可為自己加添馬匹，也不可使百姓回埃及去，為要加添他的馬匹，因耶和華曾吩咐你們說：『不可再回那條路去。』他也不可為自己多立妃嬪，恐怕他的心偏邪；也不可為自己多積金銀。他登了國位，就要將祭司利未人面前的這律法書，為自己抄錄一本，存在他那裏，要平生誦讀，好學習敬畏耶和華－他的神，謹守遵行這律法書上的一切言語和這些律例，免得他向弟兄心高氣傲，偏左偏右，離了這誡命。這樣，他和他的子孫便可在以色列中，在國位上年長日久。」

你要提醒眾人，叫他們順服作官的、掌權的，遵他的命，預備行各樣的善事。

主耶和華如此說：「王若將產業賜給他的兒子，就成了他兒子的產業，那是他們承受為業的。倘若王將一分產業賜給他的臣僕，就成了他臣僕的產業；到自由之年仍要歸與王。至於王的產業，必歸與他的兒子。王不可奪取民的產業，以致驅逐他們離開所承受的；他要從自己的地業中，將產業賜給他兒子，免得我的民分散，各人離開所承受的。」

在上有權柄的，人人當順服他，因為沒有權柄不是出於神的。凡掌權的都是神所命的。所以，抗拒掌權的就是抗拒神的命；抗拒的必自取刑罰。作官的原不是叫行善的懼怕，乃是叫作惡的懼怕。你願意不懼怕掌權的嗎？你只要行善，就可得他的稱讚；因為他是神的用人，是與你有益的。你若作惡，卻當懼怕，因為他不是空空地佩劍；他是神的用人，是伸冤的，刑罰那作惡的。所以，你們必須順服，不但是因為刑罰，也是因為良心。你們納糧，也為這個緣故；因他們是神的差役，常常特管這事。凡人所當得的，就給他。當得糧的，給他納糧；當得稅的，給他上稅；當懼怕的，懼怕他；當恭敬的，恭敬他。

你們為主的緣故，要順服人的一切制度，或是在上的君王，或是君王所派罰惡賞善的臣宰。

為君王和一切在位的，也該如此，使我們可以敬虔、端正、平安無事地度日。

主耶和華如此說：「以色列的王啊，你們應當知足，要除掉強暴和搶奪的事，施行公平和公義，不再勒索我的民。這是主耶和華說的。「你們要用公道天平、公道伊法、公道罷特。
