今天你們卻厭棄你們的神，就是使你們脫離一切災禍和患難的拯救者；你們對他說：『求你立一個王統治我們。』現在，你們要按著自己的支派和宗族，站在耶和華面前。」

你们今日却厌弃了救你们脱离一切灾难的神，说：‘求你立一个王治理我们。’现在你们应当按着支派、宗族都站在耶和华面前。”

你们今天却离弃了那位拯救你们脱离一切灾难和困苦的神，竟对他说：‘求你立一个王统治我们。’现在你们要按着你们的支派和家族，站在耶和华面前。”

你們今日卻棄絕了你們的上帝、就是那曾拯救你們脫離一切災禍、跟患難的，而你們卻對他說：「求你立一個王來管理我們。」現在你們要按族派族系都站立在永恆主面前。』

爾之上帝、救爾出諸災禍艱苦者、爾今日棄之、謂曰、立王治我、今當循爾支派億兆、進於耶和華前、

爾之上帝、救爾出諸患難艱苦者、爾遺棄之、求立一王、今日爾當至此、循爾支派億兆、立於耶和華前。

爾之天主、救爾於諸患難艱苦者、爾曹竟棄之、曰、求爾立一王治理我、今當至此、循爾支派宗族、立於主前、

But you have now rejected your God, who saves you out of all your disasters and calamities. And you have said,‘ No, appoint a king over us.’ So now present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and clans.”

But now you have turned your backs on your God. He saves you out of all your trouble and suffering. In spite of that, you have said,‘ We refuse to listen. Place a king over us.’ So now gather together to meet with the Lord. Do it tribe by tribe and family group by family group.”

But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your calamities and your distresses, and you have said to him,‘ Set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your thousands.”

But though I have rescued you from your misery and distress, you have rejected your God today and have said,‘ No, we want a king instead!’ Now, therefore, present yourselves before the Lord by tribes and clans.”

But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and afflictions. You said to him,‘ You must set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and clans.”

But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your catastrophes and your distresses; yet you have said,‘ No, but put a king over us!’ Now then, present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your groups of thousands.”

But you have today rejected your God, who Himself saved you from all your adversities and your tribulations; and you have said to Him,‘ No, set a king over us!’ Now therefore, present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your clans.”

可是當你們看到亞捫人的王納哈什來攻擊你們，就對我說：『不，我們必須要一個王統治我們。』其實耶和華你們的神就是你們的王。

然而，民眾不肯聽從撒母耳的話，他們說：「不，必須有一個王來統治我們！

他們說「請為我們立一個王來治理我們」，這話讓撒母耳很愁煩，他就向耶和華禱告。耶和華對撒母耳說：「你就聽從民眾對你說的一切話。其實他們不是厭棄你，而是厭棄我作他們的王。自從我帶他們出埃及的那天起直到今日，他們離棄我，服事別的神明——他們怎樣對我做這一切，現在也怎樣對你做。所以你要聽從民眾的話，但一定要嚴厲地告誡他們，告訴他們那將要統治他們的王，會用什麼方法統治他們。」

今日不是收割小麥的時候嗎？我向耶和華呼求，他就會降下雷雨。這樣你們就會知道並看見你們為自己要求一個王，在耶和華眼中是行了極大的惡事！」於是撒母耳向耶和華呼求，耶和華就在那日降下雷雨，全體民眾都非常懼怕耶和華和撒母耳。全體民眾對撒母耳說：「求你為僕人們向耶和華你的神禱告，免得我們死亡。因為在我們的一切罪惡上，我們又增添了一件惡事，為自己要求一個王。」
