And,“ He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.

Kill them all— old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin right here at the Temple.” So they began by killing the seventy leaders.

There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil— for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.

“ And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished.But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.

Then Jesus began to denounce the towns where he had done so many of his miracles, because they hadn’t repented of their sins and turned to God.“ What sorrow awaits you, Korazin and Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people would have repented of their sins long ago, clothing themselves in burlap and throwing ashes on their heads to show their remorse.I tell you, Tyre and Sidon will be better off on judgment day than you.“ And you people of Capernaum, will you be honored in heaven? No, you will go down to the place of the dead. For if the miracles I did for you had been done in wicked Sodom, it would still be here today.I tell you, even Sodom will be better off on judgment day than you.”

For if these things are done when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel.Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!

I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day.“ What sorrow awaits you, Korazin and Bethsaida! Don’t just say to each other,‘ We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.

“ From among all the families on the earth, I have been intimate with you alone. That is why I must punish you for all your sins.”

You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth?

For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished.

In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.

And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.

“ At that time I will put you on trial. I am eager to witness against all sorcerers and adulterers and liars. I will speak against those who cheat employees of their wages, who oppress widows and orphans, or who deprive the foreigners living among you of justice, for these people do not fear me,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

After the Lord has used the king of Assyria to accomplish his purposes on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, he will turn against the king of Assyria and punish him— for he is proud and arrogant.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.

Oh, foolish Galatians! Who has cast an evil spell on you? For the meaning of Jesus Christ’s death was made as clear to you as if you had seen a picture of his death on the cross.

And this is what the Lord says:“ If the innocent must suffer, how much more must you! You will not go unpunished! You must drink this cup of judgment!
