If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Suppose people say bad things about you because you believe in Christ. Then you are blessed, because God’s Spirit rests on you. He is the Spirit of glory.

But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats.

But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.

What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man.

“ God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.

They will do all this to you because of me, for they have rejected the one who sent me.

For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment.Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you.

But when some of the Jews saw the crowds, they were jealous; so they slandered Paul and argued against whatever he said.

That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Your enemies have mocked me, O Lord; they mock your anointed king wherever he goes.

We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

“ Listen to me, you who know right from wrong, you who cherish my law in your hearts. Do not be afraid of people’s scorn, nor fear their insults.

“ You were born a total sinner!” they answered.“ Are you trying to teach us?” And they threw him out of the synagogue.

Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.

And the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Then he gave the seventy elders the same Spirit that was upon Moses. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But this never happened again.Two men, Eldad and Medad, had stayed behind in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but they had not gone out to the Tabernacle. How happy your people must be! What a privilege for your officials to stand here day after day, listening to your wisdom!

Then they cursed him and said,“ You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses!

He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward.

to live forever and never see the grave.

Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!

When the group of prophets from Jericho saw from a distance what happened, they exclaimed,“ Elijah’s spirit rests upon Elisha!” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people— praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him.So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.

The people retorted,“ You Samaritan devil! Didn’t we say all along that you were possessed by a demon?”

“ Have you been led astray, too?” the Pharisees mocked.“ Is there a single one of us rulers or Pharisees who believes in him?This foolish crowd follows him, but they are ignorant of the law. God’s curse is on them!”Then Nicodemus, the leader who had met with Jesus earlier, spoke up.“ Is it legal to convict a man before he is given a hearing?” he asked.They replied,“ Are you from Galilee, too? In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

And they praised God because of me.

Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you.But remember that they will have to face God, who stands ready to judge everyone, both the living and the dead.

Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered.

And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
