like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

Sarah was like that. She obeyed Abraham. She called him her master. Do you want to be like her? Then do what is right. And don’t give in to fear.

For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king,“ O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said,“ You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”But he denied it before them all, saying,“ I do not know what you mean.”And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders,“ This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”And again he denied it with an oath:“ I do not know the man.”After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter,“ Certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.”Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear,“ I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed.And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus,“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but“ Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.For this is what the promise said:“ About this time next year I will return, and Sarah shall have a son.”

Whom did you dread and fear, so that you lied, and did not remember me, did not lay it to heart? Have I not held my peace, even for a long time, and you do not fear me?

But Sarah denied it, saying,“ I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said,“ No, but you did laugh.”

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them,“ Rulers of the people and elders,if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead— by him this man is standing before you well.This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman.But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar.Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.
