People shouted at him and made fun of him. But he didn’t do the same thing back to them. When he suffered, he didn’t say he would make them suffer. Instead, he trusted in the God who judges fairly.

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

He was treated badly and made to suffer. But he didn’t open his mouth. He was led away like a lamb to be killed. Sheep are silent while their wool is being cut off. In the same way, he didn’t open his mouth.

Here is what people who suffer because of God’s plan should do. They should commit themselves to their faithful Creator. And they should continue to do good.

He made it through these attacks by sinners. So think about him. Then you won’t get tired. You won’t lose hope.

Commit your life to the Lord. Here is what he will do if you trust in him.

Now, Lord, consider the bad things they say they are going to do. Help us to be very bold when we speak your word.

God, you see the problems of people in trouble. You take note of their pain. You do something about it. So those who are attacked place themselves in your care. You help children whose fathers have died.

Now there is a crown waiting for me. It is given to those who are right with God. The Lord, who judges fairly, will give it to me on the day he returns. He will not give it only to me. He will also give it to all those who are longing for him to return.

That’s why I’m suffering the way I am. But this gives me no reason to be ashamed. That’s because I know who I have believed in. I am sure he is able to take care of what I have given him. I can trust him with it until the day he returns as judge.

Jesus called out in a loud voice,“ Father, into your hands I commit my life.” After he said this, he took his last breath.

Here is the part of Scripture the official was reading. It says,“ He was led like a sheep to be killed. Just as lambs are silent while their wool is being cut off, he did not open his mouth.When he was treated badly, he was refused a fair trial. Who can say anything about his children? His life was cut off from the earth.”( Isaiah 53:7, 8)The official said to Philip,“ Tell me, please. Who is the prophet talking about? Himself, or someone else?”Then Philip began with that same part of Scripture. He told him the good news about Jesus.

Into your hands I commit my very life. Lord, set me free. You are my faithful God.

I saw heaven standing open. There in front of me was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True. When he judges or makes war, he is always fair.

Those who are trying to kill me set their traps. Those who want to harm me talk about destroying me. All day long they make their plans and tell their lies.Like a deaf person, I can’t hear. Like someone who can’t speak, I can’t say a word.I’m like someone who doesn’t hear. I’m like someone whose mouth can’t make any reply.

But you are stubborn. In your heart you are not sorry for your sins. You are storing up anger against yourself. The day of God’s anger is coming. Then his way of judging fairly will be shown.

Meanwhile, Saul continued to oppose the Lord’s followers. He said they would be put to death. He went to the high priest.

Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. When you warn them, don’t be too hard on them. You know that the God who is their Master and yours is in heaven. And he treats everyone the same.

The Jews answered Jesus,“ Aren’t we right when we say you are a Samaritan? Aren’t you controlled by a demon?”“ I am not controlled by a demon,” said Jesus.“ I honor my Father. You do not honor me.

Don’t pay back evil with evil. Don’t pay back unkind words with unkind words. Instead, pay back evil with kind words. This is what you have been chosen to do. You will receive a blessing by doing this.

Jesus said,“ Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing.” The soldiers divided up his clothes by casting lots.The people stood there watching. The rulers even made fun of Jesus. They said,“ He saved others. Let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”The soldiers also came up and poked fun at him. They offered him wine vinegar.They said,“ If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”A written sign had been placed above him. It read, this is the king of the jews.One of the criminals hanging there made fun of Jesus. He said,“ Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself! Save us!”

Herod asked him many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

Let all creation be full of joy in front of the Lord, because he is coming to judge the earth. He will faithfully judge the people of the world in keeping with what is right.

You would never kill godly people along with those who are evil, would you? Would you treat them all alike? You would never do anything like that! Won’t the Judge of the whole earth do what is right?”

They blindfolded him. They said,“ Prophesy! Who hit you?”They also said many other things to make fun of him.

All of this proves that when God judges, he is fair. So you will be considered worthy to enter God’s kingdom. You are suffering for his kingdom.

He has set a day when he will judge the world fairly. He has appointed a man to be its judge. God has proved this to everyone by raising that man from the dead.”

Those who passed by shouted at Jesus and made fun of him. They shook their headsand said,“ So you are going to destroy the temple and build it again in three days? Then save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders made fun of him.“ He saved others,” they said.“ But he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross! Then we will believe in him.He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him. He’s the one who said,‘ I am the Son of God.’ ”In the same way the rebels who were being crucified with Jesus also made fun of him.

He went back inside the palace.“ Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus. But Jesus did not answer him.“ Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said.“ Don’t you understand? I have the power to set you free or to nail you to a cross.”Jesus answered,“ You were given power from heaven. If you weren’t, you would have no power over me. So the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

God judges fairly. He shows his anger every day.

Then the high priest stood up in front of them. He asked Jesus,“ Aren’t you going to answer? What are these charges these men are bringing against you?”But Jesus remained silent. He gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him,“ Are you the Messiah? Are you the Son of the Blessed One?”

While the members of the Sanhedrin were throwing stones at Stephen, he prayed.“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit,” he said.
