When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

People shouted at him and made fun of him. But he didn’t do the same thing back to them. When he suffered, he didn’t say he would make them suffer. Instead, he trusted in the God who judges fairly.

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.

Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.

And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness,

But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless.

Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.

Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said,“ Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.

Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:“ Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth.In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth.”And the eunuch said to Philip,“ About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?”Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.

Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.

Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek my hurt speak of ruin and meditate treachery all day long.But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear, like a mute man who does not open his mouth.I have become like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes.

But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.

The Jews answered him,“ Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?”Jesus answered,“ I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.

Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.

And Jesus said,“ Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying,“ He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wineand saying,“ If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”There was also an inscription over him,“ This is the King of the Jews.”One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying,“ Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer.

before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”

They also blindfolded him and kept asking him,“ Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?”And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him.

This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering—

because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”

And those who passed by derided him, wagging their headsand saying,“ You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying,“ He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

He entered his headquarters again and said to Jesus,“ Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.So Pilate said to him,“ You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?”Jesus answered him,“ You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”

And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying,“ Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,save yourself, and come down from the cross!”So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying,“ He saved others; he cannot save himself.Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.

God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.

And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus,“ Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him,“ Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”

And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
