爾有罪惡、見撻而能忍、亦何足褒獎、亦何足褒獎或作有何可誇若爾行善、受苦而能忍、則為天主所嘉、

爾若為惡而見責、即能忍受、亦有何功？正惟為善而遘辱、逆來而順受、乃能取悅於天主耳。

But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

But suppose you receive a beating for doing wrong, and you put up with it. Will anyone honor you for this? Of course not. But suppose you suffer for doing good, and you put up with it. God will praise you for this.

But even if ye should suffer for righteousness’ sake, blessed are ye: and fear not their fear, neither be troubled;

If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you.For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil- doer, or as a meddler in other men’s matters:but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this name.

Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling- place;

And if ye love them that love you, what thank have ye? for even sinners love those that love them.

proving what is well- pleasing unto the Lord;

Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands,

And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the Gentiles the same?

But I have all things, and abound: I am filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things that came from you, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well- pleasing to God.

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
