In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

Because you know all this, you have great joy. You have joy even though you may have had to suffer for a little while. You may have had to suffer sadness in all kinds of trouble.

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.

You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men.We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless,and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.

My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!

So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

so that the tested genuineness of your faith— more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire— may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life.Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated—of whom the world was not worthy— wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation,

And Hannah prayed and said,“ My heart exults in the Lord; my horn is exalted in the Lord. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

But he said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.

For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh—

as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.

Are they servants of Christ? but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love;for he does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men.

I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

that I may recount all your praises, that in the gates of the daughter of Zion I may rejoice in your salvation.

And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit,

All my bones shall say,“ O Lord, who is like you, delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him, the poor and needy from him who robs him?”
